BE AWARE!

We have had Fetch insurance for a year now, and we just received our renewal notice with a 55% increase. After doing some research, I discovered that pet insurance companies often trap you once you join because you cannot switch to a different company if your dog has preexisting issues. Since our dog has developed allergies, we are now forced to either pay the 55% increase or lose coverage entirely. I truly believe they lowball the rate for the first year and trap you from that point on. Please make sure you ask all the right questions before getting insurance with this company.

Vomiting Fur Baby

I actually went to two places to have my dog evaluated. Every time he ate he would vomit in less than 30 minutes. . He was diagnosed with pancreatitis which lead to feeding chicken and rice. After three days I let him eat his IAMS Vomiting continue so switched to Hills Science for sensitive digestion. He has improved daily. This was quite an expensive procedure but my pet insurance helped with some of the expenses.

Lock you in at low price and then scam you with higher prices and lower payout when pet is older

All the reviews here are from people whose dogs are in the pre rug-pull age. Healthy paws is a scam. They lock your young (and healthy) pets into a 7 year cycle of paying premiums - then as soon as the pet hits 7, premiums will jump sharply, and coverage disappears - and you have no choice My premium started at maybe $40 a month, and is now $230 after paying easily $15k or more in premiums. Coverage was 90 percent reimbursement and was changed to 70 (no choice given). They know older pets won't find insurance elsewhere if you shop. So they eat up years of premium, and screw you over when your pet no longer has a choice of price shopping. This used to be a standalone company I think, then bought by "big business" and enshittified. Do not buy from these big businesses scammers, they care only about stock prices and profits.

DO NOT BUY PET INSURANCE FROM THEM!

At first, I was thrilled to get pet insurance with Trupanion (through Chewy) and the policy I purchased, which is the highest tiered one, seemed amazing. Before I purchased it, I read through all the policy documents and I even printed out a copy for reference. After I paid for the policy, I patiently waited and completed the "waiting period" before the policy kicked in and became effective. All of this took place around February (I believe) or March. After the waiting period lapsed, I proceeded to take advantage of the insurance when I had to take my dog to the vet, mostly routine check ups and vaccinations. The policy even included the ability to request reimbursement for my pet's medication as long as it met the requirements. After a couple of months, I attempted to cancel the policy because I was experiencing financial hardship and I could no longer afford the $107 plus monthly premium. When I called to cancel the policy, I was told that in order to cancel it, I would have to repay all the money I received from the claims I filed, which amounted to about $277 and change or somewhere around that. I commented that I just said I could no longer afford the $107 monthly premiums but you want me to repay $200 some back? They justified this by explaining that I would have to have paid an amount in monthly premiums equal to the amount of my claims in order to not owe anything, despite me paying the monthly premiums on time, in full, every time. In addition, I re-read the policy paperwork I printed out for reference and as far as I can see, there is no mention of having to repay all the money I received from the claims I filed. I was also told that if I didn't repay all the money back with in three days of canceling, I will automatically be sent to collections. Frustratingly, I rescinded my request to end the policy and continued paying the premiums for another month (which put me in an even worse financial position). When the next month rolled around, I ended up re-homing my dog for the same reason, financial hardship. I called Trupanion again and explained that I no longer had the dog so I won't need the policy anymore. They immediately canceled the policy but didn't mention the repayment at all, so I assumed the situation called for waiving the requirement to pay all the money back. Sadly, that wasn't the case and they've been attempting to collect from my account, but since there's no money in it, it's been declined every time. Luckily I don't get charged NSF fees from the company I have the card through (Paypal). They've been attempting to collect that $271 and change (or whatever the exact amount is) for several days now, so I decided to close that card and get a new card with a new number. I strongly urge anyone and evreryone TO STEER CLEAR FROM THIS PET INSURANCE COMPANY!!! They're just another money hungry business that does not care what your situation is, they just want their money in whatever way they can get it. DO NOT BUY YOUR PET INSURANCE FROM THEM!!!!
