Timely and slow
Very slow claim process and had to do all the work for the insurance company. My time is precious, why am i doing your work? I should have to call doctors. Cost friendly compared to other companies, however, other companies pay 100% of everything. Just got my claim today, two months later. Wasnt the greatest experience.

4x rate hikes in a single year on a healthy dog. Unsustainable and predatory.
I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed with Trupanion. I got this policy to protect my 4-year-old dog, thinking I was investing in a stable safety net. Instead, it has turned into a total financial nightmare. Within just a single year, Trupanion has aggressively raised my premium FOUR TIMES. My dog is completely healthy and we have had zero claims paid out, yet my monthly rate has skyrocketed to nearly $200 a month—all while carrying a massive $1,000 per-condition deductible. They heavily market the idea that they don't raise rates based on your pet's age, but they use a "cohort pricing" loophole to ruthlessly jack up prices based on your breed and zip code. You end up being financially punished for other people's claims. When you call customer support to get answers or look for flexibility, they are entirely unhelpful, rigid, and offer zero actual solutions. Paying this much money for a policy that doesn't kick in until you clear a $1,000 threshold for a single illness is completely unsustainable. Trupanion backs you into a corner, banking on the fact that you’ll be too scared of pre-existing conditions to cancel. I am actively looking for an alternative provider. Save your money and look elsewhere.

Not a pre-existing condition
Rescued my golden who had small, hard stool when I got him and was on raw diet. I switched him to kibble which caused soft stool until we got him settled and it never occurred again. Until he got sick in May. Due to Dr wording-misunderstanding you all consider this a "pre-existing condition"! Which is NOT. He had soft stool during transition only. So the food that he now requires due to sensitive stomach is not covered which I don't agree with!

Excellent for older cats
Hartville is a great deal, they’ve been covering 80% of my cats illness injury claims. It’s good because he’s a senior cat and sometimes it can be a challenge finding someone to insure him. I’m saving a lot of money by having this insurance. My only issue is sometimes the app in the website can have glitches that make it hard to login.
Relatively timely claim approval
I've had Spot for two years for my four-year-old dog. During this time, I submitted three claims for three separate incidences/illnesses, and all three were approved in about 2 weeks. The funds were reimbursed soon thereafter. I am glad I signed up for Spot while she was young and did not have any pre-existing conditions.
