Thank you Healthy Paws!
Healthy Paws is a wonderful pet insurance company! They have been so easy to work with. Claims are all very easily submitted on the portal through their website. You just upload the itemized invoice and the medical records you receive from your vet. The turnaround time to have check in hand or direct deposit is 10 to 14 days. Your pet will need to have a medical exam around the time you get the insurance. Most (if not all?) pet insurance companies do not cover claims related to pre-existing conditions. But don't let that stop you as they do cover a lot that can happen in an animal's life...Accident, injury, or illness (not involved with pre-existing). Depending which plan you go with is how much the monthly bill will be. You can easily play with the tool on their website to find out what works for you with regards to percentage payout and deductible and the monthly fee. We have been insured with them since we got our two rescue pups, Lainy and Jerry, when they were approximately age 1 and 2. At the start, I think we paid around $85/month combined. They are now 8 and 9 years old, and it is now about $100/month combined. So if you only have one pet, depending what plan you choose, likely your monthly will be somewhere between $30-$60. In 7 years, we have had two major incidents with Jerry as well as several tests to evaluate elevated liver values. Lainy has yet to have a claim. I am so thankful we have had insurance! The first major claim was an accident where he was hit by a car in 2020 and it was a no brainer to take him to emergency as we had insurance. The second major claim was July 2024 where we woke up in the morning, and he suddenly couldn't use his back left leg. By the end of the day, he couldn't use either of his back legs. It was a no brainer! We have insurance and he needs help. We immediately went to emergency. After x-ray, they sent him home with pain pills and a referral to neurology. The next day with no real change, I contacted neurology and they said they only take same-day emergencies and to send them a video of him. Well, they admitted him the same-day. He had an MRI and after discussion of costs (many thousands of dollars) and the plan, he was off to back surgery as he had IVDD, Intervertebral Disk Disease, a disc protruding 50% into his spinal cord. 6 to 8 weeks post-surgery, expectation is 90% recovery with only 10% chance of relapse. Great news! While home recovery has not been easy for me or Jerry, it was well worth it. In these four weeks as I write this, he has returned his ability to walk and go to the bathroom on his own. His tail is wagging and his spirit is strong. We are bonded together stronger than ever. He has a new stroller he loves so we can still go out on long strolls and smell the fresh air and pop out of the stroller to explore on the ground for his mini walks. The length of time allowed for walking will continue to increase. I am so thankful we had insurance as this made our decision to have the surgery a possibility. I highly recommend getting and keeping pet insurance. This makes handling major health events so much easier. Our pets truly do become family and having insurance makes caring for them, especially into their elder years, so much easier. Thank you Healthy Paws!

Was hopeful
As others have written, very easy to sign up and for them to take their auto payment. This year they increased my rate by more than $50 a month. When called (sometimes you can have a multi-hour wait), I was informed that they evaluate the dogs annually and increase accordingly. I need to go through my emails, I do not recall receiving anything notifying me of the renewal increase. Getting reimbursed has been difficult and lengthy. They request information over and over, making a lot of extra work for the vet staff (and annoying to me because I’m unable to help in any way). The most recent, that I’m still waiting on, my dog got sick. Throwing up and diarrhea everywhere, was waiting overnight to see how she was — she declined further and was barely able to stand. This is normally a high energy, very active dog. We’ve been clients for over a year. This is the first claim on her. They’re still looking into it to be sure it isn’t pre-existing. They have the report card from when we signet up showing there was no issues. It’s been a year, no claims, and they treat us like we’ve done something wrong and search hard to find something wrong. Also be aware that the prescriptions actual fall under the deductible too. My older dog has a new for meds, and we won’t meet the deductible, so no script coverage. Update in response to Embrace’s response: In one year, while interest rates were between 3-4%, our rates increased about 50%. A rate increase can and is expected, but this to me is excessive — and without warning. Pertaining to having medical records: as stated we’ve had a policy for a year. When enrolling we have to provide records and we did the all the testing reports and such, so all records are in. My dog got sick (some type of stomach issue) and it has been well over a month, with multiple reports and records sent from my vet and it is STILL on hold. My dog was sick, she was weak and was barely able to stand, so it is on hold to see if she had any lameness as a pre-existing condition. There were no pre-existing conditions and it was an issue with her stomach … three different report types from my vet — all stating my dog is not lame in any way and they are trying to say it is now going to be a pre-existing condition and the claim is on hold.

I was happy with Embrace until my…
I was happy with Embrace until my monthly fee doubled this year. I was told it was the increase in cost for pet care. There had been an increase every year that was mostly reasonable however I found it interesting that the cost doubled right after a year where I had used the policy more.

What is going on with Embrace?!
What is going on with Embrace?!? I have been a loyal customer since 2013 and have previously recommended this company to many others. Recent denial of claim on new puppy asking for information before she was born and from vet that my previous deceased dog went to years ago. Now system refusing to upload documents and holding for hour with no one answering the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
