Trupanion does not provide the peace of mind that one hopes to get for the high cost of pet insurance. Repeatedly, when I have had to seek reimbursement for bills that resulted from medical situations, they pick through every claim and invoice and remove any expense that they possibly can. They have denied reimbursement for evaluations, calling them “exams” and “visits” and do the same with follow up visits, even when specifically included in discharge instructions. This has happened consistently. My premium has also increased for both pets every single year. If I had not enrolled my pets as puppies, I would definitely shop around, but at 3 and four, the cost of entry level would be much higher. I wish I had been more selective initially because almost every claim has been a major hassle when dealing with them. The company, overall, tries every way possible to hold back whatever reimbursement they possibly can. They pick apart every detail and work against their clients if at all possible. At least this has been my experience.
