Fast, Compassionate Service
I had to file several claims over the last couple weeks as my cat had a urinary blockage and then a UTI as a result of the treatment. Every representative I've spoken to has been helpful, efficient, and very friendly. I am very grateful to Trupanion for helping me cover the expenses and don't know where I would be without them!
This is the worst insurance...my claim started in January 2021 and it’s now the end of March 2021 and I have submitted my dogs medical records myself 3 times and they are still holding up my claims and today they said they have to call my veterinarian now for more information...absolutely ridiculous
Don't take out a policy AKC Pet Insurance unless you're a lawyer specializing in contract law. They denied a surgery claim a year after a crucial ligament surgery diagnosis claiming that the initial injury happed within a 180 day waiting period despite paying other claims for the same injury. I called to try to discuss the denial but all I got was my policy quoted to me and them conveniently not being able to find the claims that were paid.
Trupanion's "per condition" deductibles have been a lifesaver in caring for my cat with two chronic conditions. Submitting claims and receiving reimbursements is astonishingly easy. I am so grateful that this company exists.
Trupanion has been the absolute BEST pet company to work with!! They have helped me immensely with the veterinary costs to treat my dog's cruciate ligament tear & other issues. Their customer service is exceptional. No long waits & they are in America! Their claims department is very efficient. Their communication is fast & thorough. I would not be able to afford treatment for my dog if it wasn't for Trupanion. I only wish more veterinary offices would recommend & set up direct pay accounts with Trupanion. If you are in the process of choosing a pet insurance, don't hesitate with choosing Trupanion!!
Submitting Claims with Healthy Paws has been easy to do when I need to. I have a concern with how they significantly increase their premiums every year though.
We have been using Healthy Paws since 2015 when we adopted our kitty. He was 7 years old then. Every year, the insurance premium slightly increased up until last year when the premium almost doubled in price. We just received a notification for the premium adjustment for 2021, and the cost is almost doubling again. It seems that now that my kitty is in his senior years and had a few more appointments, they are adjusting the price to the point where we possibly should consider moving to another insurance company. I want to let others who are looking at this insurance as this is not covered if any of the insurance ranking web sites. You will find other customers who are posting this same complaint also..
I currently have a $250 deductible with 90% coverage. Below are some numbers for reference.
2015 = $29.35 / month
2016 = $30.77 / month
2017 = $33.45 / month
2018 = $37.61 / month
2019 = $43.98 / month
2020 = $83.02 / month
2021 = $157.40 /month (renews in 2 months)
When I called Healthy Paws last year about the significant premium price jump, I was told then this was due to the number of people filing claims in my area so they have to adjust the premium costs. Before I moved to Healthy Paws (based on their good reviews), I had a VPI/Nationwide plan and the premiums never adjusted this significantly.
Since I started paying in 2015, I have paid $3040.14 in premium costs. Unless I adjust my coverage for 2021, I will pay $1,888 in premium costs just for 2021.
There was a class action suite that was flied about this practice, but the judge dismissed the case it seems in favor of Healthy Paws.
I am very satisfied with Healthy Paws. I purchased the insurance policy ($100 deduct, 90% coverage, around $20-25/mo) for a kitten that we had rescued. Shortly after, she had blood in her urine. Her vet treated her for a UTI. She continued to have problems, so a x-ray was performed. She was diagnosed with a large urinary stone requiring surgery. I uploaded her itemized bill via mobile app to Healthy Paws. Very easy process. I was reimbursed (minus $55 vet fee, $100 deduct, and 10% copay) within a week. She was put on a prescription diet (no coverage by insurance). A couple years went by, and she just had another surgery for the same problem. Again, a $1000 surgery was reimbursed and my copay and out of pocket was around $250! Thank you Health Paws!
I adopted a bulldog mix during the pandemic - luckily I had insurance because she had a tumor and spay issues. ASPCA covered it (minus the spay since I did not have wellness added on. I did not know this but they were able to explain over the phone that it was not covered without adding wellness.) The claim itself was 4K - and I was reimbursed close to that amount. I plan to keep this insurance forever because I was not expecting a rescue dog to rack up a 4k bill within adopting her! I also love the mobile app, I would check that daily to check on my claim status. Direct deposit was made within a few days after the claim cleared.
OK, I don't typically take time to review things (shame on me) but I had to for Trupanion. Unsolicited, btw. My dog, Sully - is about 8 years old. Back story- I got him as an 8 week old puppy, after leaving an abusive husband with two little girls with me. I was scared to death but determined to climb out of that tough season. Enter Sully - he was there to distract me, and to eventually allow me to sleep at night and keep us feeling safe. He did this and 100% more. Fast forward 8 years - Sully was diagnosed with thyroid cancer a couple of months ago. Devastating is an understatement. That said, I know life is not meant to be permanent, but we wanted to make sure Sully was first and foremost, pain free - and secondly - buy him some time with us if possible. Trupanion made it possible for us to get his tumors removed (this is not cheap people!) and have that peace of mind that we can do everything in our power to keep him pain free and with us longer. I can't thank them enough, as the process of submitting invoices is insanely easy and also FAST. Thank you for all you do and for allowing us more time with our sweet boy.
