Great Service and Coverage

I have been a client for 4+ years and have always found the service excellent and "hassel" free - both uncommon traits in the insurance world. Our standard white poodle is very active and seems to find trouble - two major incidents so far - and Vet Insurance has always been there. I must admit that when our vet recommended Vet Insurance I was more than a bit sceptical but no more - when I talk with fellow dog owners about my experience they are more than a bit surprised given their experience with other carriers. Keep up the good, no excellent, work. CHEERS!

Expensive, but worth it

My six-year-old spaniel has had some major medical bills within the last year, and much of it has been reimbursed through Trupanion. I realize that, basically, pet insurance is a way of "saving up" for the worst occasions, so it isn't cheap, but it certainly is the best way to budget for those major bills - and Trupanion has promptly reimbursed me for most of my big claims.

There when we needed them.

Without our knowledge, our 11 month old Golden Retriever accidentally swollowed a stone about the size of a small egg. We noticed his behaviour was off and decided to take him to our Vet. An x-ray revealed the mass and he had to have immediate surgury at the emergency/referral clinic. Thankfully, everything turned out fine. Given the situation, I'm sure any pet lover would do their best to aid their pet and absorb the cost. This was a large bill with very little time to decide. Knowing we had the insurance made the whole situation much easier to deal with. Trupanion approved our claim very quickly and we received payment about one week later. We have had many pets over the years but this is the first time we have had pet insurance. It was a recommendation by our Vet. My conversations with Trupanion during the initial sign up period were informative and have since proven to be honest and accurate. We recently signed up my daughter's new cat and I can say with certainty that I would never be without pet insurance again.

Fantastic!

In the first 5 short months upon receiving our rottweiler puppy, he broke two toes and then had a major situation with vomiting and diarrhea. We have had many trips to the vet. Trupanion has been wonderful! Our vet processed the paperwork for me the last time and a check was received within a week! Trupanion has certainly helped to alleviate the burden of unexpected expenses. This was one of the best decisions I made!

Beware of PetSecure

Let me start by saying that I insured two cats with PetSecure and have been paying in and around $80 / month total in premiums. One cat, Spike, was insured on the very first day I brought him home from the breeder... From the very beginning I started getting notices in the mail saying my premiums were going up, or going down, then going up again. I received another notice saying coverage for dental was going down. Dental was one of the big reasons I got pet insurance to begin with. Spike got sick with respiratory issues about a year ago. Refund came in as promised for that first time claim for Spike. I was happy, was telling all my friends how great PetSecure was. About a month ago his illness returned. I had a largish vet bill, around $900 for this illness, in total. I submitted my claim and got a refund for $350. Now, I'm not an expert at math, but this is NOT a 20% co-pay. I called the customer service and was told that my co-pay went up to 50% because I was in their top ten the year before with a claim of about $1400 for Spike's first illness. PetSecure *might* be good if your pet never gets too sick, or if they only get sick once. But once you make a claim, watch out because you're on their radar and will find yourself paying 50% of your vet bill, you premium, and your deductible. So, not only would I never ever recommend this company again to anyone as I have in the past, I have now gone to my friends who signed up because I recommended this company, and have told them to beware and look into other pet insurance options.
