VPI is average in my view as a pet insurance company. The pros is that they cover wellness visit up to a certain point but the con there too is not everything is really covered either. I’ve had nibbles on VPI/ Nationwide since she was a puppy and I would have thought that over time that more would come come being a long time customer but each year as your pet gets older the deductible is higher and I see that they cover less. The one time nibbles was near death from eating bone that impacted her intensine when she was 4 years old - nationwide only cover half the cost of the surgery and everything from hospital stay /icu and meds were not covered. The point of insurance to help pets who are the owners children get protection and care in an insurance policy. From this surgery and hospital stay I was out of pocket $10,000 because only surgery was covered by a little less than half the amount I had to pay for. My husband and I are planning to switch because she isn’t getting better as she gets older and we need to be able to care for her with work with an insurance company that will help more then less.

IVDD Nightmare
Our frenchie had two IVDD surgeries in six months! If it wasn’t for nationwide...I don’t know where we would be as these surgeries were in the thousands. They paid 90% of the cost which allowed us to not have the financial stress. Instead we could focus on our #1 priority...our baby Truman. Thank you nationwide for being there when we needed you most!

Trupanion was there when I needed them.
Mahalo (Thank you) Trupanion for being there! This was my first experience with one of my pets getting sick and I was a bundle of emotions while I waited at our pet hospital to find out what was wrong with my little guy. I knew it would cost a pretty penny but I never imagined that a one night stay in the hospital could cost so much. I knew that I would have to endure whatever cost it took to get him some help. I contacted Trupanion while I waited for them to put together the estimate as my anxiety grew. When I inquired about direct billing the agent on the phone went over exactly what I needed to do and within minutes after speaking with the veterinary staff, they came back with an estimate from Trupanion and what would be covered. Some relief came over me to know that Trupanion was there to help me. Long story short, when I came back the next day to pick up my baby,(who had me worried all night) I was anticipating having to pay more in order to check him out. Low and behold, they submitted the final invoice to Trupanion and again, within minutes I was called up and told that they would be refunding me a huge chunk from what I paid the day before. What a relief! Thank you Trupanion for everything. I'm so glad that I had pet insurance. Trupanion came through BIG TIME!

Got Nationwide Pet Insurance the day I brought my puppy home. She has had two major operations and Nationwide came through for us. They reimbursed us their portion before my credit card bill came. I recommend them to everyone I know who has a pet.

Wonderful response time!
After a very trying two months with my dog suffering undiagnosed pain, and having to experience the emotional rollercoaster of whether he was at the point of euthanasia, we had some tests done that pointed to neck and lower back issues as the possible source of the problem. The staff at Trupanion were very supportive throughout this trying time. Because we had Trupanion coverage we were able to choose the option of moving forward to the next step of imaging and treatment. This involved travelling out of town to a specialty clinic who, in turn, submitted a pre-approval for treatment options to Trupanion. After the treatment was finished, the invoice was forwarded to Trupanion in the early evening and we received confirmation of payment from Trupanion by 11:00 the following morning! Exemplary turn around time! Having Trupanion pet insurance has allowed us to get the medical care for our dog that we would otherwise not have the option of doing. The level of customer service that they have provided in this instance has given us the comfort of mind that we can provide the best care possible for our beloved companion. Thank You to all involved in support and care for our boy!

Faye is still alive thanks to Nationwide
If it weren't for Nationwide we might not be able to give Faye everything she needs for the remainder of her life. Thanks to Nationwide we were able to figure out how to work with her auto-immune disorder and allow her to live a short, but healthy life. Each claim is super easy, the customer service is amazing, and after every tough vet visit we are able to relax a little bit knowing that we've got her covered since Nationwide has us covered. Every dog owner I meet I recommend Nationwide and swear by the peace of mind doggy insurance provides.

Nationwide Pet Insurance does a tremendous job in helping meet the high costs of pet care.
Sassy has some problems with allergies and ear infections. Her insurance has been so helpful in paying a large part of her healthcare. I am totally satisfied with all that they have done.
