Overall a good experience

Overall a good experience, the claim was approved and covered exactly what our policy said it would. It did take a little while to hear something, would have appreciated some sort of update along the way. The customer service is a little lackluster - it's hard to actually get in touch with anyone.

Pets Best Insurance has been easy to…

Pets Best Insurance has been easy to work with. Just submit a photo of your bill that you paid to your veterinarian, specialist &/or pharmacy and they will get back to you with an EOB as to whether or not a reimbursement payment will be made to you. One star off because the turn around time can take a while.

Easy claim filing, fast reimbursement, delivers benefits promised

My 9-month old kitten Milo had two seizures within a two week period. While it was very scary for us to go through, the peace of mind that we had pet insurance meant I didn't have to worry about affording any of the tests, overnight hospitalization, or medications. The explanation of benefits was very clear each time and the reimbursements were deposited as cash into my checking account within 1-2 days after filing the claims. Claims are incredibly easy to file as well -- all you have to do is upload the itemized invoice from the vet. The monthly premium of $14 is the best investment I've ever made and I couldn't be happier with the ease and delivery of benefits Healthy Paws promised. They can count us customers for life!

They WILL increase your rates when you have a claim...

For the first six years of the policy, everything was fine. They took our money and we never contacted them. The price seemed competitive, and we were happy to have the certainty that Chaco would be covered if he got into any trouble. The, one day he was attacked by an unleashed pit bull on a local trail (I love pit bulls, they can be such sweet dogs, but unleashed on a local trail and pit bull is never a good idea). My dog lost half his ear and ended up having four visits to doc to get treated, stitches, stitches reinforced, and stitches removed. First, you should know that Healthy Paws will not cover the visit charge for any of these visits, even if they are emergency or follow up. They only cover the costs beyond the visit charge and after your deductible. In the end, they covered about $500 or so, which is a little more than our annual premium which we had been paying for six years. A few months later, our premium was nearly doubled, despite Healthy Paws claiming they never increase rates due to a claim. We decided to pay the increase. This year, they increased another 50% and now want us to pay close to $100 a month for a just turned eight year old dog that has never had a claim other than this one small $500 claim. Buyer beware. This company is not interested in the health and wellness of your dog, they only want your money.

I wish I could get my own health insurance through Trupanion!

I've had to use Trupanion twice for surgeries for my dog. Each time the claims were handled quickly, efficiently and with compassion. The second surgery has had far more complications than the first, but Trupanion has covered everything letting me concentrate on getting Flora healthy again. I can't say enough good things about this company. I keep running out of words, but I recommend Trupanion to all my pet loving friends.

Referring Trupanion to friends is the best advertisements

Enrolled Son-E in Trupanion 10 years ago. This was the first experience with pet insurance. We buy insurance for the unexpected, and many years we were blessed with good health, but with 1 sneeze, life changed. So thankful that I had a pet that allowed us to intervene with radiation therapy for the nasal and brain tumors. So thankful Trupanion was there for us. We now have more time with our beloved boy. Some friends have joined the Trupanion family with our experience and referral.

Poor Claim Service

Have had policy for 6 years. Claim service for established hip meds gets worse every time I submit a claim (2-3 months)

Thankful for Healthy Paws

When we adopted our rescue Skeeter I knew I wanted pet insurance. Prior to adopting Skeeter, we had adopted an English Bulldog and we passed up health insurance on him because of the cost. That was a huge mistake. There is nothing worse than having to make hard choices about your pets health because of the cost. Of course we always did what was necessary to provide our Bull Dog with the care he needed but it hurt us financially. For Skeeter I researched almost all of the pet insurance plans out there and after reading Healthy Paws policy, we decided that was the right plan for us. For the first 1.5 years our minimal claims never met the deductible, so there was no payment to us. Then this past Sunday my dog became very ill and was vomiting blood and passing blood through his feces. He’s had some digestive issues in the past but nothing like this. Monday I called my vet and they recommended the ER and advised he may need an x-ray or ultrasound. That night I filed a claim and today (2 days later) I received an email that the claim was approved. What a relief to have Healthy Paws there for us in such a scary time. Many of the negative complaints on here are no fault of Healthy Paws but rather the policy owner not understanding the policy. As the consumer it is your responsibility to know and understand what you are buying. I thoroughly read the policy and all the information related to how to file a claim and have never had an issue. The major items to outline is that on your first claim you must send in a complete history of your pets medical records so they can determine pre-existing conditions. Exams are not covered and you have to meet the deductible before benefits are paid. One you meet the deductible it’s a coinsurance percentage that you chose upon purchase. Hope this helps! Thank you Healthy Paws!
