Changes coverage if you make claims

We pay high premiums to ensure coverage at 80% co-pay for $5000 per condition, per year from the time our pup was approximately 8 weeks old. She is now 6 1/2 years old. When our dog was 5 1/2 years old, we received notice that they were reducing their co-pay from 80% down to 60%. At no time had we had come anywhere near our maximum coverage (in 5 1/2 years, receipts submitted were just over $5000. Their explanation is they review a 24 month period and determine a level of risk for our dog. They state the reduction is only temporary and in 6 months they will do another review. 6 months later they reduced their co-pay down from 60% to 50%. 6 months later, it remains at 50%. In their ongoing review they use 18 of the same 24 month period, so they will continue to penalize you if you have one large bill or multiple smaller bills even if you are nowhere near your maximum allowable, for an extended period of time. This 'penalty' will continue if you continue to use the insurance.. Their logic, they do not want to charge you higher premiums. In fact, you will pay significantly more money because they provide less coverage (from 80% co-pay down to 50%). As your dog gets older your deductible also goes up. Most years our premiums have increased. (The time it takes them to process claims has also increased). They will then state they continue to cover your dog at the same level and the reduction is only temporary...our dog was diagnosed with a heart condition (stable and has never required treatment) and MAST cell tumour (cancer). She had an anaphylactic reaction to a wasp sting. Her past cancer diagnosis requires we test any lumps. To keep her healthy and reduce risk, we remove lumps when small under local anesthesia. We also have to have an emergency kit available to resuscitate her if she gets stung. They will not cover this emergency kit citing it it our 'choice' to have it. Our dog will die if she does not receive immediate treatment, how is that a 'choice'? The reality is with the reduction in coverage, if we were to submit receipts for $1000, with the higher deductible of $300 they may pay $350, Whereas prior to the changes to this policy, they would have paid $560; $210 increase in what we pay..Essentially, the more receipts you submit, the bigger the penalty that is applied and the longer the penalty will remain in place. This review is based on our personal experience.

Terrible insurance, don't do it!

I am beyond over this insurance. My cat had a UTI before I got Healthy Paws for both my cats, so of course they wouldn't cover that visit. But then he got another UTI 7 months later and they said it was a precondition, so anything that is UTI based now they will not cover. I'm mad due to the fact that a precondition is something they are diagnosed with but my cat wasn't diagnosed with a disease. If there is anything wrong with your pet before going into the insurance, it's a waste of money.

Super helpful and prompt service

This company has been a God send! Not only did they take care of all the claims expenses promptly but they call and ask about my pets and their health afterwards. I am very happy I went with such a caring company.

Very Happy Customer

I have recently used this insurance for my boxer after she ingested rat poison. The claim was handled very expediently as well as a great follow up call from ASPCA to check on my dog. I would recommend this insurance to any pet owner.

Incredibly prompt response and no hassles!

Our regular vet recommended that we have an MRI and spinal tap done to help identify the cause of cluster seizures in our 6 year old beagle mix. I submitted the estimated costs to Embrace and had confirmation of coverage in less than 24 hours. Fantastic response turnaround - we can now move forward without any delays.

They are the worst, unethical.

I would give ZERO if I could.. Please please please, listen to the negative reviews. This company is awful, they turn words around, they are rude, they are not forthright on purpose. They quote their cancellation policy constantly and make sure the 30 days to cancel is well past your deadline before you can discover how awful they are. They are keeping $116 of my dollars due to the fact that I cancelled after the 30 days. I HOPE THEY ENJOY THE $. (This is after months of trying to get claims processed) They claim my Vet's office (who by the way has high scoring reviews everywhere) never sent them the info they needed, this after my Vet's office swore the faxed numerous times. NUMEROUS This is also after numerous RUDE calls. They want to talk over you, they forget you are the client. I can't waste any more energy on this company, a manager finally called me, I'm not bothering to call back, her message noted their cancellation policy, really? Not the fact that I was lied to numerous times, I WAS.. By the way, they miraculously received EVERYTHING from my Vet (I also sent it, not sure what they are talking about) a few days after I cancelled my policy, so now my claims are null & void. Do not use this company, they are spin masters and amazing at it. Please please, believe the bad reviews, and there are many, everywhere. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Find one that treats you with care, not one that has nice telephone music while you hold on for 20 minutes. One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

Overall great pet plan! Fast, easy to understand and wonderful customer service.

I got this plan for my dog when she was 8 weeks old and it has been a godsend! She has had allergy issues and been in and out of the vet since she was 4 months old. The claims are very easy to submit, the reimbursements are fast, and the explanation of our benefits are easy to understand. If I do have questions the customer support staff is always able to answer them and they are so friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this plan to any pet owner!

Great decision in Pet insurance

I learned about and purchased Pets Best for my dog and cat because I work for Farmers Insurance, and they have partnered with Pets Best to better serve our clients needs and offer this added protection. Working in insurance, I know it's something you expect to pay for and hope to never use. I never expected my dog would be diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) less than six months later. :( I submitted the claim and they got to work on it within a few days. Unfortunately, to no fault of their own, my primary vet took quite a while getting vet records to me, which delayed the claim. But every time I called or emailed Pets Best with questions, they were easy to reach and very friendly. My claims have been paid promptly and correctly for my policy. I had my reimbursement within about 4 or weeks of filing it, but over two weeks of that was due to my vet delay. Assuming this kind of treatment continues, I plan to have every pet insured with them for life. Thank you Pets Best, truly. My dog wouldn't have received the aggressive treatment without this policy. Forever grateful for that!

Great coverage, no gimmicks or small print to confuse you.

Our "boy" had to have major surgery on his elbow and our coverage allowed us to get the operation he needed. He's on the mend! I am always skeptical about insurance companies but everything we needed we received in a timely manner. I would recommend this company.
