I believe it's important to have this for my pet but most of the people I know do not feel the same and would not spend the money for a what if situation

Trupanion is an excellent company.

Trupanion is an excellent company. I have been with them for almost 8 years now. Never any issues. Extremely fast payments on claims. Forms are easy to fill out and can be sent right from the vet's office. Prompt service, no hassles, extremely pleasant staff when/if you need to call in for questions. Rates are fair and don't increase as your pet gets older. I highly recommend this company to all pet owners.

Reliable!

We adopted our dog at 18months, she was a mess as she wasn't treated kindly by the original pet owners. We went for years and only needed to submit a claim 3 times for minor cuts. I felt that they were reasonably prices and the annual premium increase was minimal and worth the potentials of what we would need it for. Recently our almost 7 year old, active and healthy seeming dog started changing. We experienced what felt like a nightmare when this past month we took her in for what we thought was digestion issues only to discover that she had an enlarged heart with arythmias that needed to be looked into further. While we waited she took a turn for the worst and was sent to the ER vet (PRICEY!) to see a cardiologist and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and put on a multitude of medications and strict follow up regimen. The easiest part of this whole experience has been working with out insurance. They reimbursed us for 90% of our covered bills and medications to help make what we assume will be her last year of life a comfortable one (the things they don't cover is minimal and very transparent)! We probably submitted close to 10 claims this past month and there hasn't been a single one that we needed to negotiate coverage for not to mention each invoice was direct deposited into our bank account in less than 5 days! Healthy paws has has amazing customer service, efficient billing, reasonable pricing, and has been well worth the affordable monthly premium. If it wasn't for our insurance we wouldn't have been able to provide the care for her that she needed, especially in this financial climate of being a small business owner in the midst of Covid19.

Healthy Paws is the best pet insurance company ever

I subscribed to Healthy Paws pet insurance when my puppy was ~12 weeks old. I wanted to make sure that if she ever got a severe/random disease like cancer that I wouldn't have to think about whether or not I could afford treatment. When my dog was about 2 years old, she started getting really bad environmental allergies which has led to constant ear infections, UTIs, skin problems, scratching, etc. in addition to monthly Cytopoint injections ($100 each!!). Healthy Paws has been extremely easy to work with and usually completes claims and reimburses us within 1-2 days of submission. We are now trying out immunotherapy on our dog to actually treat her allergies, and I don't think we'd even be able to consider that if we didn't have coverage through Healthy Paws. I would recommend Healthy Paws to all dog owners and I would just recommend getting it as early as possible to avoid having pre-existing conditions that might deny coverage!

Pet's Best paid my claim with no hassle

My cat needed a full mouth extraction just a few months after the mandated waiting period when I first signed her up. I fully expected a lot of hassles when I filed my claim but they paid everything they said they would (minus the $583.89 deductible and the co-pay). It was a $3,339.22 surgery and they paid $2,755.33 of it. I'm glad I signed her up. Caveat: They did require proof of a dental exam within the previous year that didn't diagnose periodontal disease or stomatitis, to rule out pre-existing conditions. I had done that so I was fine, but they do have that requirement.

Healthy Paws has been awesome for us!

We have a 7 month old lab. His name is Milo. Before we bought our policy from Healthy Paws, I researched several companies. In the end, I chose Healthy Paws. I liked the idea of a small annual deductible and 90% unlimited coverage with a reasonable monthly premium. I definitely made the correct decision as we are very pleased and highly satisfied with Healthy Paws' service. We have used the policy several times since we have had Milo. One of the reasons that I chose Healthy Paws is because it does not have a maximum annual or lifetime amount of coverage. It is uncapped. I am especially pleased with how easy it is to submit a claim, how quickly the claims are processed, and how quickly the funds are deposited to my account (usually within 1-2 days after processing). I simply snap a photo of the vet's invoice and upload it on the Healthy Paws app. Shortly thereafter, I receive an alert that tells me that it has been received. Not long after that, I receive another alert telling me that it is being processed. Lastly, about a day later, I receive a final alert telling me that the claim has been processed. I click on the link to see the details of the claim and what was covered. At the start of the policy, we had to submit Milo's initial medical records to Healthy Paws. Since Milo was a puppy, they wanted his full shot records and initial vet examination notes. Once I submitted that info, all claims have been processed without the need for any doctor's notes. I simply upload the photo of the invoice and the claim is processed. That simple. Once last point, Milo recently had to undergo some expensive testing because he was experiencing prolonged diarrhea and vomiting. The bills from the vet were covered by Healthy Paws saving us a very large out of pocket expense. Milo is doing much better. It appears he had a bad reaction to something he ate. Healthy Paws actually sent us a personalized email asking how Milo was feeling. We felt that was pretty special. Without hesitation, my family and I strongly recommend Health Paws!

Stay Away, they increase monthly premium exponentially.

Trupanion is quite deceptive when you ask this question prior to signing up "Do monthly premiums increase as your pet ages?", they'll say no... because they don't call it age related. They'll tell you there's tiny increases at the cost of vet care goes up. My cat has been on Trupanion for under 1 year, she's currently not even 2 years old. She had one claim for diarrhea. I got a notice today that her monthly premium is going up by over $8 a month effective next month. Unreal! They cited increasing costs of veterinary care. My other cats are with Pets Plus Us and I wish I'd signed this girl up with Pets Plus Us too. Pets Plus Us does take 2 - 3 weeks to process claims... but my others have been with them for 4 1/2 years and never ever ever have I seen their monthly premiums go up like this! One of my cats with Pets Plus has over $20,000 paid out by them and his monthly premiums have never ever increased like this. Their monthlies increase by a couple of dollars each year. I would be very leery of signing on with Trupanion... don't be lured in or fooled by their quick claim process time. They won't be long term sustainable for a lot of people.. with how their monthly premiums raise.

Best insurance company ever

I've had my babies insured with Healthy Paws since 2015, and for first couple years I thought about removing it because we hadn't used it. So glad we didn't. Three years ago one of my boys had to have TPLO surgery and we just didn't have the upfront money that you're supposed to pay. After speaking with my vet and Healthy Paws they agreed to do a direct pay. Day of surgery came and they were true to their word, what's more they sent the payment over within 24 hours of receiving final bill. What's more they follow up with me via email and phone to see how Chance was doing and even sent him a get well soon post card. Most recently we've also had to get two growths removed on Chance. Again, the level of service has been great, my claim was completed within 72 hours of me submitting the claim. What's more, they've even followed up to check how he's doing since then. I wouldn't change this for the world. I can say that with the health scares and costs we've incurred with both our boys (they're both in physical therapy) the last thing I've had to worry about is whether they're going to cover things or if I'm going to have to argue for reimbursement. Even though our premiums did increase a bit this year, I still wouldn't change them. The level of care they show for pets is all worth it.
