Thankful for Trupanion
We are so thankful that we have pet insurance from Trupanion. Our Hanky girl was diagnosed with IMHA and if not for our insurance, we would be in a very tough spot financially to be able to give her the level of care needed. We have been with Trupanion for almost 6 years as we made sure we had insurance as soon as Hanky saw our vet for her first check up as it was recommended. Trupanion is caring and efficient and truly cares about our fur baby. We highly recommend Trupanion.

Trupanion treated us very well
Every time Trupanion raised their rates over the last 4 years I questioned whether we should keep the insurance. I am so glad we did because it really helped us out when our dog recently got cancer. It was very reassuring to know that money did not have to factor into the treatment decisions. Trupanion was great in terms of turning around the claims and reimbursing us quickly. The only thing that was a little difficult is that we had to take her to three vets: our regular vet who found her kidney problem, a specialist who diagnosed her with cancer, and an oncologist. Each vet started by doing an examination, and these were not covered based on the blanket policy that examinations are not covered. I can understand not covering the first examination, but the examinations performed by the specialist and oncologist were part of the treatment of her condition and should have been covered, in my opinion. However, everything else was covered and overall we are very happy with how we were treated by Trupanion.

I really wish that when adding multiple pets that you had a package deal like some of the others insurers do. In other words slightly reduce the price per pet when adding more than one on the same plan.

Extremely fast claim payment!
My dog Seelie was diagnosed with congestive heart failure due to a leaky mitral valve when he was 5 years old, had insurance with Trupanion since he was about 3. He's now 9, takes six different medications, has regular evaluations with a veterinary cardiologist, and has fantastic quality of life. I don't have to worry about being able to pay for his care with Trupanion; every single claim (and there are a lot of them) is paid fully and quickly. He had a full work-up with the cardiologist last week: ultrasound, x-rays, etc. The bill came to over $1300. I submitted the claim online to Trupanion... over $1100 was deposited into my account two or three days later. It doesn't get much better than that!

I think Trupanion is basically a rip off given that it doesn’t cover fees to visit the vet to find out what’s wrong.
I think Trupanion is basically a rip off given that it doesn’t cover fees to visit the vet to find out what’s wrong. Also the exclusions on our policy are pretty outrageous. And it’s expensive. We will be cancelling at some point. We also have another policy with a competitor that we like more. But we will eventually self insure.
