Simple and straightforward
The site was very user friendly. I've heard only good things about Trupanion so far. I really liked being able to customize my deductible to lower my premium. I also like how the plan itself is sufficient to have coverage without having to get all kinds of extras.

Exam fees should be covered for emergency visits. That is a ridiculous exclusion. By the time you got through with all the exclusions a $223 bill had a payout of $46.00. At that ROI its not worth having you for insurance. Going to look around for other options.

Unreserved recommendation w/ caveats
90% coverage is wonderful, claims are easy to submit, quick to process, and payments rapid, which together makes getting the best care for my pup in the worst of times a no-brainer. Even on-boarding is quick and easy, without medical exam. This is why I would recommend insurance, and Trupanion in particular to any animal person without hesitation. However, while premiums are fairly affordable – on par with or cheaper than supplementary coverage for me – I’m not thrilled that prices were raised after I’ve been a customer for seven years. I’m not overjoyed that I can’t reduce my pup’s deductible. I’m unimpressed that an examination fee at the ER is treated as preventative care, and thus isn’t covered. That being said, Trupanion has steadfastly been there for us, without fuss, and has paid out to us ~20% of what I’ve paid in premiums over the years. Which is really worth it to me for the peace of mind as my pups begin to age.
