Great Experience

Everything went very smoothly purchasing Buddy’s policy. Prices very affordable. I don’t recall the girl’s name I spoke to, but she was very polite.

Thankful.

So thankful I had an insurance policy to cover the needs Duff had due to cancer. I could not of financially managed the enormous vet bills without it.

Easy to submit claims, but PRICE HIKES are too much

I left a 10/10 review recently for Healthy Paws because it was easy to submit the claim for my dog's TPLO surgery (after he tore his knees/ACL in an accident), and pretty easy to get payment. But less than a month from that claim, I got an email saying that my monthly premium has gone up 50% - now at over $270 per month. They say premiums do not go up because of claims, but it feels suspect. I reached out to ask, and the generic reason they gave was that overall pet owners have been submitting more claims, they're paying more out, and now they have to increase prices. My dog's only 6...I can't even imagine how much premium they'll try to charge by the time he's an elderly dog.

Experience.

Experience. I am involved in my 10th rescue dog to date. 3 are Greyhounds. I have two presently insured with Trupanion. This year I experienced a dog attack on my Greyhound Rose. My previous two have also been attacked in the past. I made a comparison table of 5 star dog insurance companies based on the ownership of my two Greyhounds, on the assumption the average veterinary cost would be $5,000 for each, per incident. I have learnt to insure for the worst, not the best. Like for a motor vehicle. Looking for cheap insurance is foolhardy. Because there is no cheap veterinary care for dogs. A dog owner needs to be able to afford for minor incidents. But needs to be insured for major incidents. Dogs are like motor cars. These days $700 (my excess for each) would not repair a scratch. So insure for the worst. Trupanion is a well worked model to deliver for this.

Review

Overall I just don't feel it is necessary and is an unnecessary charge with consistent added fees that are useless. Plus, time consuming process over the phone when I called because I wasnt able to complete online while driving with my new pet...and the representative was ridiculously focused on educating me anyway about the online process and info even though I said over and over again that I was on a time restriction driving on my way to my new pet's vet appointment. He then responded at one point "well you don't have to get all mad about it!" But I literally just had to keep asking him and redirecting him to continue to move forward with the PHONE process as I was ALREADY on the phone with him!
