I am happy with Trupanion overall

I am happy with Trupanion over all. However there are some things which I have not been happy about. The increases costs of the policies even though coverage has increased it would have been nice to have had the option to accept the increased coverage or keep the costs down. Over the last 5 years it would have been cheaper for me to have put money aside each month for their treatment which would have also covered the exam fees. I do not like that Trupanion does not cover exam fees when an issue requires treatment. To me that is part of the care of my pets. If it is an exam fee with nothing found requiring treatment then I can see you not covering that. Also not covering annual shots which prevent potential diseases and illnesses that you would end up having to cover is ridiculous. It only benefits your profit margins for the pet to remain healthy. That's all for now.

The insurance policy is unclear about what is covered and the verbage used in emails is misleading.

I took my dog in for his annual checkup, which I thought was covered. The exam was before the annual renewal of his policy. Ensure sent an email confirming that the visit was covered. I did not receive reimbursement for the claim, and inquired as to why. They said it is "covered, but you have maxed out the well check reimbursement for the year of your pet's policy." I realize as a former insurance defense attorney that there is a difference between "insured" and "covered". Their marketing is misleading and their language is imprecise.

So disappointed in HUGE price hike BOOOOOO

I spent a significant amount of time and effort researching pet insurances last year. Now, for my two dogs, one increased from $34/ mo to $58/ mo and the other from $27 to $43 /mo. I was told that it was due to them being a new company and the new underwriters did this to keep their prices competitive. Well, now they are NOT competitive. They offered options such as removing vet visit fees (which is now an extra add on) which basically amounts to about 1 vet visit which doesn't help, or increasing the deductible. Well, my only options go from $200-$500 and up with $10,000/yr limit at i00% coverage. Even bringing the coinsurance down to match other insurances doesn't help. I have already started looking at Pets Best and PetPlan and they have similar options that will cost less or about the same but have either Unlimited coverage or at least $15,000 (which was 15$ cheaper). This is really frustrating. And sure you can say 'well then just switch, who cares?' But it's not that easy and Figo knows this. First you will have to overlap your insurance or pray that your dogs/pets don't get sick in the new insurance's waiting period. Then the who knee and hip clauses you have to weed through as well. I could understand if it was a slight increase, maybe even $10 a pet, but this is just so frustrating and they are basically just saying well, eat it. They have had decent customer service, except for when I was not able to see an EOB for one of my dogs' visits that was denied and they said it was corrected, which I still could not see it and so I was not able to appeal it, I only have so many hours in the day to spend on this. So here I am AGAIN, almost exactly a year later, sifting through the plans. I think we needed Obama care for our pets too. This is getting crazy.

A big help when really needed.

As a senior on limited income, it means a lot to be reimbursed. Joey has been a healthy cat since I got him as a baby almost eight years ago. Unfortunately his teeth were very badly decayed. Most of the procedures were covered by insurance. It means the difference between being able to do something for fun and scrimping. He was an abandoned kitten and has NEVER been sick. I have two others who have made up for it.

A little pricey, but worth it!

I have the Whole Pet Wellness plan for my baby and while it is a little pricey, it is definitely worth it!! I considered getting just the Wellness plan since I signed up when my dog was a puppy and he is still young (he's now 2), but being a fox terrier, he has boundless energy and tends to run into things or play like he's invisible. Therefore, I wanted him to be covered if something DID happen (I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it). I didn't have insurance on my first fox terrier and when he got a little older, he ended up tearing both of his knee ligaments within a year of each other and they were some hefty bills! And then he ended up getting pancreatitis and eventually passed from blood cancer, which I would have tried to ease the pain of more if I had the money or insurance... so right now I'm mostly using the insurance for Wellness exams and his flea and tick medicine (and let me tell you, the Nexgard is expensive and it's SO nice to get most of that back), so it is a little costly right now, but I love knowing that if something were to happen to him, as long as I have the money to pay for it upfront, I will get most of it back and I can provide him the best medical care throughout his life. I don't have kids nor want them, so my dog is my child and I want him to have the best! I also love the Vitus Vet app to make it easier to submit claims! It doesn't speed up the process at all, but it is super easy to use and I love that you can add medical notes to each of your pets in the app and keep track of all of their vet visits and expenses. Right after making a claim in the app, I like to add the visit to his medical files and make a comment of everything that was done, any results, and how much the visit costs, what day I submitted the claim, and how much I received back and when. It's just nice to have everything in one place so I don't need to go digging through all of my receipts if there's ever a dispute or issue. Thanks Nationwide!

Great insurance coverage for my pet

This company is quick to pay and can be directly deposited into your account. The coverage is the best I found. I wish I had had this for my other dogs.

Quite a disappointment so far

To save on out-of-pocket costs for myself as the lone income, and well as considering the insurance company and multiple claims, I've always "bundled" services when a pet has to be put under. Not a recommendation with Nationwide. 2 pets had dental work done - around $375 each. One of the 2 pets also had a mass removed (not covered) for an additional $400 ($797 total). Nationwide only gave me credit towards my deductible for $65 of the $375 because they commented as the majority of the $797 was for the mass removal, which was totally incorrect. I left another pet insurance company, thinking I was going to get more (and I'm paying 35% more/month), but so far, it's not the case. Even though it's only been 6 months, I sure hope it improves.
