FOR THE PARENTS OF PETS RIDING ON THE FENCE ABOUT PET INSURANCE***DON'T!!!! I was one of those parents and my personal experience was extreme gratitude for finding and enrolling in Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. My 1yr old powder puff fractured leg and screaming in pain. Took him to animal hospital and of course the invoice is enough to shatter your finances. My insurance reimbursed me and I was surprised on how quickly they paid me. You would not do without health insurance for any member of your family. Isn't your pet part of your family? I'm not being paid for this review and it is an honest assessment of my personal experience with this worthwhile establishment. Here's a coined phrase that's most appropriate-----"DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT".

Coverage well below actual costs of treatment
I thought, as I suspect most people do, that any insurance product will cover the majority of the costs for major veterinary care for my dog. The coverage provided by Nationwide is totally inadequate. My dog was hit by a car and the cost of emergency surgery and post-operative care was more than $11,000. Nationwide paid $600. When I called to ask why, I was told that the scheduled payment for blunt trauma was $550. If I had known that the payment for accidents like this was woefully inadequate, I wouldn't have bothered to purchase insurance. I don't think you can really call Nationwide's product an insurance policy. This coverage certainly doesn't meet my expectations of insurance.

Happy to have pet insurance
We decided not to get pet insurance for one of our dogs, only to discover he has a liver disease, and those vet bills quickly added up. When we got our puppy we decided Pet insurance may be a good option. Our vet clinic offered a plan which I believe was over $120 per month but as we always do our research we came across Nationwide with a cost of around $50 per month. Our pup, now 18 months, needed emergency surgery recently costing over $3000 so we were very relieved to have had Nationwide pet insurance in place. The claim process is straight forward.

Top notch customer service and insurance coverage for your pup!
I signed up for dog insurance a few months ago as a precaution but I was honestly still skeptical of if something happened would it be a hassle to try to get covered?
I learned the hard way that accidents happen last year and changed my mindset on my Dixie girl is healthy, I don’t need dog insurance. She is a 6 year old Aussie / Border Collie mix rescue and highly active. However, last year, I started to look into pet insurance and policies after almost losing her to a crazy foxtail incident. She had become septic, they didn’t know why and she had to have emergency exploratory surgery. It took a year to pay off that bill and then decided to get a policy with ASCPA a few months ago for peace of mind. The stress of almost losing your dog and trying to figure out how to pay a very expensive hospital bill is just not something I want to combine ever again.
Today, I am so happy I made that decision to get a monthly policy with ASPCA! As luck would have it or unfortunately, not long after the waiting period was over, Dixie started limping. Turns out she had completely torn her CCL (ACL for dogs) and needed TPLO surgery. Also due to the upcoming surgery, her being inside and other meds she needed to take, we took her off flee meds for the month and she also got a hot spot on her tail from flee allergies. She had aggravated this over night to the point that it needed vet care on a Sunday.
Long story short, all claims were approved with our new plan of $500 deductible and 90% reimbursed. I have always thought of insurance as being a hassle if you do have a claim but after a short period, I am beyond impressed!
In all seriousness, I would like to switch my personal insurance policy to ASCAP.
This was a non hassle process and customer service was beyond caring and helpful! I honestly now feel really happy about the monthly fee with knowing my dog is protected! I highly recommend ASPCA!
The only hiccup for me with processing the first claim was not realizing how and what is needed for new policies which caused a delay ... So here’s my tip for new policies and claims:
The easiest and quickest way to get info that ASPCA needs in order to process your first claim is to call and/or email every vet your dog has seen with the following info request: “I need all medical history records or

Positive exchanges
More recent, I've had positive exchanges w/Trupanion & this interaction was excellent. The reason for "8" vs. "10" is that I prefer an annual plan vs. a "per condition" plan. Although I'm becoming more accustomed w/Trupanion, for me it is far easier to case manage a per annum plan. That being said, I also recognize the benefits of some of Trupanion's coverages, e.g., coverage for PRP and stem cell therapies that other plans do not cover.

Lots of questions
I had a hard time figuring out why I paid so much for Benny s dental work. I know I had reduced my monthly charges which meant higher deductible but if the invoice was around $1100, why did I pay all of it? I feel the anaesthetic should have been half covered because the pulling of 6 teeth was the main issue, cleaning was done because he was put under anyway. I was told I wouldn't t be charged the full $250 the next time, it would be under $70 but with this large bill why is that amount reduced this time when I had such a large bill and not for the next issue? Lots of questions and lots of money spent
