I have had a dog in the past without pet insurance and I had to fork out quite a bit of money. It definitely makes it easier to have 2 dogs with pet insurance to cover there major expenses. One of my dogs needed her teeth cleaned and the pet insurance paid 90% of the cost, which was awesome!

Trupanion is essential........
My 7 y/o American Bully is the greatest joy of my (and my family) life!!!! She is the sweetest, smartest, most wonderful dog from day 1. She has previously had (2) cruciate ligament repairs; urinary incontinence ),maintaining on medication), and elbow dysplasia (maintaining on medication-no surgery yet). I can truly say that I don't know what I would have done w/o Trupanion!!! She is healthy (79 lbs) and going strong!!! Yes, the premiums can seem expensive; however, when I weigh it against the costs we have already incurred, and the on-going treatment plans...as well as looking ahead to the future, it is a true blessing to have Trupanion!!! We want her to live forever!!!!! My joy is taking care of her!!! This is my first experience with pet insurance and I can honestly say that I have NO REGRETS!!! I have my beloved dog!!!!

This is why we have pet insurance!
Like most insurance you pay for, you hope to never have to use it. For the average well visits, etc, having insurance has not been much of a help, but when our dog developed gastrointestinal issues which necessitated weeks’ worth of treatment including tests, IV fluids and medications, etc. and our bills added up to over $3000, we got 2/3 of that back after making our insurance claim. That was a huge help to us, and I am very satisfied and pleased with how Nationwide handled this. Thankfully she is fine now.

THE ONLY THING I WOULD WANT CHANGED TO MAKE THIS A BETTER EXPERIENCE IS THAT THIS INSURANCE BE HANDLED LIKE OUR INSURANCE. I DON'T LIKE THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY IN FULL UP FRONT. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT BUT PAYING OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS UP FRONT IS NOT EASY AND I AM SURE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ALOT OF DOG OWNERS. I SUGGEST NATIONWIDE LOOK INTO PAYING THE VET DIRECTLY TO HELP EASE THE PAIN. AS IT IS, IT'S DIFFICULT DEALING WITH A SICK OR HURT PET AND HAVING TO WORRY IF YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PAY FOR SERVICES NEEDED.
