RUN AWAY
MetLife Pet Insurance has been the most frustrating and unprofessional insurance experience I’ve ever had. I’ve been a paying customer for years. My premium increased from $145/month to $170/month this year and I’m now paying over $2,000 a year for coverage that they refuse to honor. I submitted a claim for my dog Kalista’s newly diagnosed allergies. MetLife denied it as a “pre-existing condition,” even though: She had no prior allergy symptoms (no itching, no ear infections, no skin issues). No veterinarian ever suspected allergies until the dermatology appointment on 11/21/25. The symptoms MetLife used to justify the denial were unrelated GI issues (intermittent diarrhea), which have nothing to do with skin/ear allergies. When I sent a formal written appeal with complete SOAP notes and specialist documentation, MetLife didn’t even process it as an appeal — they simply misfiled it as a new claim and denied it again without reviewing anything. When I called to fix it, I was told the only way forward was to make my veterinarians fill out yet another MetLife form, despite the fact that the records already prove the denial was based on a misinterpretation of their own policy. This came from an individual who constantly interrupted me and spoke over me. In short: They denied a legitimate claim by stretching the definition of “pre-existing” beyond anything medically reasonable. They ignored a written appeal entirely. They pushed the burden back onto already overworked veterinarians. They’re collecting $170/month while refusing to honor coverage. If you’re considering MetLife Pet Insurance, be prepared for denials, misrouted appeals, and a company that seems far more invested in avoiding payouts than supporting pet owners. I would strongly warn anyone against trusting them with your pet’s care.

Fast and easy reimbursement
My 10 year old Rough Collie has had Fetch/PetPlan for many years. I use the App for my claims. My Vet emailed me the needed information and it was easy to upload the forms in the App. She was treated by the Vet on 12/2/25. It took me a day or so to start the claim. On 12/10/25 reimbursement was direct deposited into my account. I would recommend that before you need to submit a claim you have all your information in the App. All I had to do after her appointment was pick the reason for her visit and add the invoice and the Vet’s notes about the purpose of the visit.

Prompt payments
December 2025 - Spot reviewed and approved veterinary claims quickly and once I hit my cat's deductible, made prompt reimbursement payments, including on emergency veterinary care that was quite pricey. I experienced no trouble or hassle and am so far pleased with their service.

I love pets best overall
I love pets best overall. The only issue, which has become a major problem for me financially lately, is the time it takes to process claims. It's been taking 4 weeks before I am paid for claims which is a financial hardship for me.

I highly recommend ASPCA
My dog suffered for many years and it was costing me a fortune, I decided to finally get pet insurance with ASPCA, and I've been with them for about 3yrs. In the beginning ASPCA was a real pain in the arse, they wanted documents of ALL of his medical records, problem was he had been to 3 different veterinary doctors, and this took some work. ASPCA kept denying claims based on pre-existing conditions, and admittedly they were pre-existing, their not stupid, but as time went on my dog developed more health problems, and I would pay the bill out of pocket, then submit a claim, it would take about a week but they would pay as much as 75%. Recently my dog passed away but not after several costly vet bills were incurred totaling around $4700, total for the year was around $8k, this included full bloodwork, urine culture, emergency doctor visits in the middle of the night, Xray's, Ultra sounds, everything the doctors could think of. I paid out of pocket and days later they reimbursed me about 65%. Insurance companies are in the business to make money and ASPCA is fair about how they conduct their business, they denied pre-existing conditions because they really were pre-existing, but when my dog had new health problems they held their end of the deal and paid out up to 75%. I highly recommend ASPCA.
