I'm new to really using Trupanion and I've just submitted my first claims.

I'm new to really using Trupanion and I've just submitted my first claims. But the couple of times I've called so far, the reps have been especially nice and helpful. That's very important to me.

Preexisting condition nonsense

My only two claims were inappropriately denied citing preexisting condition. My Vet disagreed with this finding and I had to file an appeal through my vets office. Very disappointed that Trupanion chose to dismiss my original claims instead of doing the right thing and applying towards my deductible. A brand new puppy doesn’t show signs of a preexisting allergy. I sincerely hope my future experiences will be better or I will be canceling my policy and sharing my experience…

Response and coverage is quite good.

Response and coverage is quite good...once a specific incident/disease is over deductible limit. For my future dog, I'm looking for coverage for at least some routine vet bills (shots and normal health checks) to recommend a 10.

Bea's Grateful Mom!

Thankfully, we have had limited claims for our dog but for those we did need to file, Trupanion was extremely quick to process the claims.

Furkin covered my $8000 bill

My poor pup broke her leg jumping off a couch and the vet said she would need surgery and would have to wear a splint for 4 weeks. I’m so glad I got insurance because the total cost came out to just under $8K and Furkin covered 80% of the cost. Well worth it and super thankful we have it or it would have been a very tough expense for me.

Better Life for Doggy Daddy

This is my 5th dog to be insured thru Nationwide, the first that isn't a boxer, a breed that tends to require extra veterinary care. In all cases, knowing that insurance coverage was in force decisions to treat or not to treat was based on what was best for the dog, not how much I would be willing to spend. Having it has made the quality of life better for both dog and human!

Great Experience, outside of the usual pet insurance limitations.

After having Healthy paws for 5 years without much of a need for them, my dog began having spinal issues and IVDD surgery twice which I was billed $9k each time! The first time expensing it to Healthy Paws was a little bit of an effort since they do need the official full historical report from your vet before paying anything out. However, the second time was seamless--I had made 5 easy claims up to the point of the surgery and they quickly paid me out each time, all they need is the official invoices. Something important things to be mindful of that may result in disappointment--but I think these are the case with any pet insurance: 1. As far as I know--they do NOT COVER PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS or VISITATION FEES. The first is a bummer, the latter can rack up without realizing it. 2. Once you make a claim, you can't change your plan, so you're either locked in, or go somewhere else that won't cover any new pre-existing conditions that occurred while covered here. Outside of these, Healthy Paws really has great customer service on the phone every time I've called, and they've paid out quite quickly and efficiently on every claim.
