Nationwide gives me peace of mind

I have three dogs and all are insured. Yes, the premiums are expensive, but I have peace of mind knowing that I will receive payment for any illness or injury, large or small. Even though I try hard to keep my pets healthy and safe, accidents happen and illnesses occur. When they do I submit my claims and get reimbursed for much of the cost. Having Nationwide pet insurance allows me to get better care for my pets than I would be able to afford on my own. This is going to be even more critical when I transition from full time employment to retirement later this year. I have had this insurance on all my pets since adopting them, but had it the longest on my 13-year-old whippet, Sam. I have seen changes in how claims are submitted and payments made over the many years I've had Sam. The new VitusVet claim process is so quick and easy! It used to be an ordeal to get all the paperwork together to submit a claim via fax or the USPS. Now I just fill out the information on the app and take a photo of my invoice and press send. What could be easier than that? And, recently Nationwide has added Chase Pay which deposits my reimbursement directly into my bank account. All I do is approve the amount and it appears in my account! My only concern is that it seems to be taking longer than usual to get claims processed. Despite this one small concern I highly recommend Nationwide Pet Insurance.

Saved my baby

My little girl, Isabella, has had her share of issues. From a liver shunt to allergies. If it would not have been for Nationwide, not sure i would have been able to have her surgery to correct the liver shunt. But she has done good after that. Now i just wish i could get a handle on the allergies. Working at it.

Good Service But Slow Claim Settlement

Claims slower than previously for a simple visit and followup, almost 30 days from submission. Slower than the old VPI group and annual fee and I believe deductible are much higher.

Very good customer service, not sure it's worth the money

Nationwide is easy to deal with. However, the premiums are extremely high. The latest jump was a $25/month increase over last year, which I think is way too high. I'm not sure it's cost effective when you factor in premium vs what's covered.

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
Since 1982, Nationwide has helped pet owners protect what matters most. As the largest provider of pet health insurance in the U.S., Nationwide currently insures over 600,000 dogs, cats, birds and exotic pets for medical conditions related to illnesses, injuries accidents and wellness care. In 2015, it introduced Whole Pet with Wellness, the only U.S. pet health insurance plan offering complete coverage for injuries, accidents, illnesses and wellness care. Policies range from nose-to-tail coverage to routine pet care plans that offer reimbursement for wellness exams and preventive treatments.
