This comprehensive pet insurance is definitely worth having.

I really enjoy the piece of mind knowing that if my pet is sick or injured I will be able to afford his medical care. The only reason I didn't rate it a 10 was because I wish they would pay the veterinarian directly.

Mixed feelings

We signed up our dog Bruno for Nationwide pet insurance through my husband's work, because they offered a discount. We have him insured since early 2016. We did not have to file any claim until last year, when he tore his ACL. Everything went great, they reimbursed me right away, no questions asked. I am actually very happy with their plan and customer service. But here is the kicker. I just got my renewal in the mail and they raised my yearly rate nearly $400.00. I called and tried to get a legit answer, because - let's be honest this is beyond ridiculous, and they tried to tell me that it is just simply insurance cost going up. Well, I am looking for a new insurance now. My rate would be going to $95.00/month. That is not happening.

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
