Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

I got Healthy Paws when we first got Boo. On his third vet appointment (which was just for a rabies shot) and after having Boo for 2 months our vet discovered he had PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosis) or a hole in his heart. We were referred to a cardiologist who determined Boo needed cardiac surgery, otherwise he would have to be put down. There was no question of doing the surgery. After I paid my deductible, Healthy Paws paid 80% of the bill. I am a single mom of three. I cannot tell you how grateful I was. I had only paid three premiums at that point. In addition, they emailed and expressed their concern over what was happening before the surgery and emailed again after it to see how he was doing.

I purchased pet insurance shortly after my then 7-mo old pup had a bout of throw-up/diarrhea combo and cost me a hefty $500+. At 4 yo, it’s been pretty uneventful until last April … It was emotional. Plus, worrisome and stressful. Worried-sick about my baby who is in pain, and yes, worried about how much it would cost, especially during the uncertainty of COVID. Filing Claims: as soon as vet bill was emailed to me, I attached same in my account (no forms) Claim Processing: was completed either by same afternoon or following day Reimbursement: when huge surgery bill came, they requested for medical records from vet; upon their receipt, it was processed by following day … and money was in my account by next day. As much as we love our babies, vet bills are often cost-prohibitive and does weigh into our decisions on plan of action. With all the stress and worry about your baby, for me, relieving some of the financial burden, when we’re talking lumpsum in the thousands, certainly helps a lot. So thankful for quick processing and reimbursement.

Healthy Paws has been Awesome!! I have a dog who is 1 1/2 years old. She just had her 2nd knee surgery(TPLO). I could not have afforded the cost of both procedures within 6 months. I signed up for HealthyPaws in 2015 when I was gifted my pug mix Pumpkin at just a few weeks old. It was easy to sign up because the explanation of coverage is simple. In 2019, Pumpkin broke his tooth in a toy chewing accident. I immediately got him treated. After paying the vet, I submitted Pumpkin's medical records and vet expenses to HealthyPaws via their website (just two clicks to upload all of the documentation). HealthyPaws reviewed the claim and reimbursed the cost within two weeks (minus deductible and the exam fee). In 2020, Pumpkin decided to get into some more trouble which resulted in a very scary emergency abdominal and intestinal surgery. Knowing that I had HealthyPaws was so important because I didn't have to think twice about my financial situation every time the vet called to get permission for treatment. Pumpkin received lifesaving surgery and recovered two weeks later. I submitted my medical records, invoices, and HealthyPaws came through less than two weeks later! On top of all of that, HealthyPaws e-mailed me to check in on Pumpkin's recovery, and when I was on the phone with them for a question during the claims process, the representative asked me, "so how's Pumpkin doing? I hope he feels better." I could hear the concern, and was so touched by the fact that the people who work here are pet lovers. I will be a HealthyPaws member for life. The monthly fee seems like an easy cost to cut when things are going right, but when you're fighting for your pet's life, it's the smallest price you could pay for peace of mind. No one should have to think about losing their savings or getting put in a rough financial situation when they should be focused on saving their pet's life.

A couple of weeks ago, my dog Annie developed a sudden and aggressive form of gastroenteritis and landed in the ICU. It took 3 days of round-the-clock care before she began to rally. Annie's been home with me now for just about 2 weeks, and is on her way to a full recovery. It was a close call that required critical care, and Healthy Paws was there for us. Not only do they make it easy to submit claims, they process them quickly. And there is more. They wrote us yesterday to ask how Annie was doing. We are grateful beyond measure for their support.
