After I read the fine print – this is the company I chose.
My employer offers Pet Insurance at a group discount, however, I chose to go with Healthy Paws after I read the contracts to several of the insurers. Healthy Paws was the stand out. They may not offer the annual physical and vaccines, which in the Boston Area is, I want to say, around $200 a year, however this is what they have reimbursed me for (at 90%) over the past ten years for three rescued dogs.
90% reimbursement for the MRI’s and medication when my dog Ben developed epilepsy later in life. I also received reimbursement for the water treadmill physical therapy he received to treat myelopathy. I was reimbursed for acupuncture to help with his ailments. Healthy Paws reimbursed me for the surgery Ben needed when his spleen ruptured, and they also reimbursed him for the stomach surgery he received when food would not go into his stomach. Ben was able to live a long, healthy, happy and productive life – and Healthy Paws significantly offset the expense that was needed to provide him this.
I had another dog that needed significantly less care. Holly was hospitalized once when she needed eye surgery – and once again, Healthy Paws paid for 90% of it.
Finally, my dog Penny developed an issue where there was significant damage to her teeth. Healthy Paws reimbursed me for, what resulted in, two surgeries that totaled ten hours.
Overall, I am very happy with Healthy Paws and plan on being a customer for a very long time.
