How to Save Money at VCA Canada Oshawa Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Absolutely horrible first and second experience here. I recently moved to the area and booked a first visit for our family cat for a check up, who I suspected to be pregnant as she was showing obvious signs at this point. I was given really no feedback or information other than she may be pregnant but maybe not as other health issues can cause similar symptoms. I gave all the information from a simple Google search and even how far along she may be, which was turned out to be accurate. I had mixed feelings about the clinic after but thought I'd try again when due back until my recent telephone conversation. My cat was Infact pregnant and delivered about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately about a week or two after being born one kitten started declining and showing obvious signs of distress. Panicked I called to ask if I should be concerned or what I should do and was put on to one of the technicians who was extremely cold and brushed me off by saying just watch it and make sure it's eating, it could be constipated then go to your regular vet if still concerned. The tone was very cold and unwelcoming and her response was short. As it turns out that kitten died later that night. I called tonight to voice my frustration and concerns but the receptionist was just as rude and basically told me why didn't I do something if I knew the kitten was sick and basically put the blame on me. I am completely disgusted with the behaviour and how unprofessional my experience was. I will never ever return.

This VCA location doesn’t care about sick animals well being. Phoned to get a prescription refill for our sick dog with our Toronto location to send it over for them to fill WITH an additional fee and they refused to fill it. So ridiculous. Take your pets elsewhere. Now our pet has to suffer until we get home tomorrow because of their extreme lack of care or empathy.

I switched to this place because I was unhappy with my other vet surprising me with bills after the visit. I like this place because I feel like they really care about my dogs but also because they are very straightforward with costs before the appointment. They also offer boarding, and the place is clean and organized with lots of staff that is eager and happy to see my dogs :) Lots of parking and I do like how the back is a field so if one is being checked I can play with the other. Thanks again 😊

I am only giving 4 stars because we have had to put down two cats here .. my latest just a couple days ago otherwise you get 5 stars. Pricy yes but honestly you get what you pay for. They have the kindest staff who really respect your animal even after putting them down. They are sad to see animals go but supportive when the animal was pretty sick. Thank you for the kind words on the card you sent afterwards and the follow up phone call.

All staff here have always welcomed my family and I and have answered any and all questions or concerns we may have about our dog. They're all friendly, extremely helpful, as well as very professional. We've never looked to any other place when making all decisions when it comes to our Scooby 😊
