How to Save Money at Grandview Bloor Animal Clinic / Cushing Mobile Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Have had my cat Larry there on multiple occasions and then in for surgery. The staff and surgeon are all very caring towards you and your animal. Will continue to always use as my vet and make the drive down from Port Perry.

I had the worst experience with Grandview Bloor pet clinic Here in Oshawa ON, My poor Aussie suffered from negligence in their procedure. He cried so loud from the way they placed the sedative into his leg, the vet Dr. Cushing didn't even do the procedure she had a student doing this. My poor babies last minute of life was in total pain, this is the last memory I have of him. They never even apologized, making excuses. The whole problem was lack of experience, first the didn't give him the proper dose for his weight and they even weighed him. The girl with the needle did not know what she was doing To top it off after they administered a second sedative and tried to put the catheter into his vein for the vet to come and push the final dose into him is when she hit his bone in his leg and he cried so loud. I don't recommend this practice for end of life care, it was bad enough he was sick and had to leave this world let alone not have the proper love and attention. I have been grieving all weekend and I would not want another fur baby to go through what mine did. Rest in Peace now Aussie We Loved You So Much my Boy! Best little guy ever!💔

Would not recommend this vet to even worst enemy.. We typically go to another local vet who are AMAZING with pets and their owners however, we were unable to get an appointment with them for a week and my little guy was in pain. I decided to call Grandview Bloor animal clinic who I got an appointment with the same day ( They are clearly not busy for a reason). Brought my cat to the appointment with Dr Cushing she came In the room talked to us for a min, went into the back room with the cat and was not seen again.. The next person I talked to was her vet tech. Anyways, after $400 worth of blood work later I was given a quote for $1380 plus pain meds for a full teeth extraction on my cat. Days went by and I had to contact the clinic myself to get my results ( apparently everything was good with him) After my cats surgery, I picked him up still under sedation which resulted in him hurting himself more. Dr Cushing's receptionist told me to "keep him calm" and to "put his cone back on" ( her professional advice). Dr Cushing charged me $500 to "scale and polish" my cats teeth and then removed them... I am not a vet however, I think I am smart enough to know that there is no point cleaning an animals teeth and then removing them.. ( maybe she sells cat dentures on the side?) I went back to the clinic the following day to get more clarification on the bill and this charge for teeth cleaning . Dr ( if that's what you want to call her) Cushing gaslighted me and my partner and refused to give our money back. They clearly do not know how to draft up a bill or care for animals after surgery properly so how can they be trusted to treat your pets. This woman should be flipping burgers up-selling on a side of gravy not taking care of animals charging people to clean their pets teeth and then extracting them

I have used Dr. Cushing when she was a mobile vet and now in her new vet clinic. She has always been amazing and treated my pets like family. Recently in January we had to put our dog to sleep as he was sick. I was comforted by Dr. Cushing and her staff and I am so thankful for all their support through this difficult time! She made one of the hardest days more bearable and was extremely sensitive and supportive and so was her team! I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for a great vet! Thank you to all of you for all that you do for our animals! you are so appreciated!!

Dr. Cushing and her assistance teams are incredible. In the past she has come to our home to assist with our incredibly anxious dog and did so with ease. She was the only other person my dog would trust. Now she delivers outstanding care to my cats in her clinic. This past May we thought we were going to lose our girl and with Amanda's help and care she is still here making my days brighter. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my cats and will continue to boast about and support her practice. Having her in our lives makes it better knowing we have a Personable and Responsible Vet practice we can always count on in our corner. Thank you GBAC!
