How to Save Money at Southdown Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Caring, compassionate, loving, gentle, thoughtful, knowledgeable, helpful, warm. When explaining this clinic there are a million good words I could say about them. In the beginning of July my dog, Benji, was not acting himself and I immediately felt like something was wrong, after losing my other dog, 6 months prior, feeling emotions was a understatement. I called Southdown and they calmed me down and asked questions about his behaviour and recommended I bring him in. After bringing him in and doing tests they found benjis spleen had ruptured and highly recommended surgery. They gave my family updates throughout surgery, updates while benji was staying overnight and in the morning after his surgery. Knowing that my dog of 10 years was in good hands put me at peace. Southdown saved my dogs life and i appreciate the amazing staff and doctors that Ive always considered family. Some pictures they took of him during his stay and him now.

Our little chihuahua has been a patient of Southdown Animal Clinic for over 9 years. She has had her regular checkups there, vaccinations, teeth cleanings, travel certificates, spaying, and a major surgery to repair her cranial cruciate ligament about a year ago. Dr Warren did a fantastic job with this surgery. Our doggie’s recovery was remarkably fast, without any complications, and she fully regained her mobility. Our doggie had to stay in the clinic for a couple of nights following her surgery, and we were kept informed of her progress all along, which we truly appreciated. The clinic’s staff has also been awesome over the years. Always helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, and super kind with all furry patients. We highly recommend this clinic and we believe that Dr Warren is the best veterinarian in Mississauga.

This has been our dog’s clinic for 8 years. The team is very professional and humane. Our dog had a huge surgery and the recovery was impressive, the way they kept us posted and guided us through the process was equally remarkable. They offer a full-service veterinary hospital treating cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, reptiles, and pocket pets. 100% recommended. We moved farther away from the clinic and we still take our dog there.

I was dealing with yeast and allergies in my dog Milo for over 4 years. He was miserable, full of flakes, and no vet was able to fix him. We went through constant vet visits, only to be given pills that worked for a short time before everything came back. When I was ready to give up and thought Milo’s quality of life was gone, Dr. Warren was so easy to reach. He even called me and, just from my description, already knew the issue and had a plan. He wasn’t pushy at all—he said he was happy to guide me and that I could continue with my regular vet if I wanted. His experience spoke to me, so I went into the clinic with Milo. Within 4 days Milo was already much better, and now, not even a month later, it’s all gone! I’m so grateful and thankful to Dr. Warren and also to the assistants, who were so kind and helpful. I would not go to any other vet. They saved my dog’s life and gave my family more years with Milo. Big thank you!

When my chinchilla began having serious health issues, I was searching desperately for a vet who understood chinchillas. I came across a review from years ago (on this page), that specifically mentioned chinchilla care, and it gave me the confidence to reach out to this clinic. I am so grateful that I did. Dr. Warren and his assistant Gabriella treated my chinchilla with such kindness, patience, and expertise. From the first tooth trimming to the very end, they were gentle, knowledgeable, and always focused on his comfort. They handled him with such care during every visit, and it made a real difference in his stress levels and overall treatment. Dr. Warren is someone I truly recommend for the way he cares for both animals and people with deep empathy. Thank you for everything. - Gabby and Chichi
