How to Save Money at Dixie Animal Hospital Mississauga

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I originally came here on a mission to find someone brave enough to trim my dog’s nails — a task that usually requires trazodone, emotional support, and possibly a priest. My dog is so skittish that simply thinking about the vet sends him into witness-protection mode. Enter Sydney, the nail-trimming ninja. Not only did she manage to give my dog a full pawicure, she somehow kept him calm the entire time. This is the same dog who has previously required me to physically carry him into vet clinics like a furry, screaming toddler. But today? He ran into the clinic with excitement as the clinic doesn’t give off “vet vibes.” A massive plus that it’s a very warm environment. 🎉 Booking was easy and the price was affordable 👌🏼 Huge thank you to Sydney for taking such good care of my dramatic little man!! Will definitely be back — hopefully with fewer pre-appointment sedatives next time. 🤩🙏🏼🐾

Dr. Rania and this clinic saved my dogs life and I couldn’t be more grateful. At our previous clinic, my dog Jorge (14 male) had been misdiagnosed with allergies. For 6 YEARS we tried every allergy medication, shampoo, and specialized diets to no avail. We even tried anxiety medications as the vet proposed that his constant licking could be due to me causing my dog stress. Jorge was licking to the point of rawness, severe hair loss, and darkened skin, he was lethargic but unable to sleep through the night due to discomfort, he stopped playing, and he took the term lapdog to a new level. Finally I decided to try bringing Jorge to Dixie. Dr. Rania knew from the moment she saw Jorge that he was not suffering from allergies. Jorge was in addisons crisis and it was a miracle that he was still moving. Dr. Rania has been with us every step of the way as she has gotten him on the road to recovery. Jorge has gone from a zombie to having the zoomies for the first time in a year and constantly bringing his toys to me. Dr. Rania is so kind, caring, takes ownership over her patients, and she gave me my dog back. I would have lost Jorge due to a misdiagnosis if I had not met Dr. Rania. The staff here are so wonderful and compassionate. Thank you Dr. Rania and all the wonderful staff at Dixie Animal Hospital.

We had an excellent experience with Dr. Ranbir at Dixie Animal Hospital while our dog Bruno was under his care. Dr. Ranbir and Dr Tej were extremely knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate throughout the entire process. They took the time to clearly explain the diagnosis, treatment options, and after-care, which gave us a lot of confidence and peace of mind. Our Dog’s recovery has been going very well, and it’s clear that the quality of care and attention to detail made a real difference. We truly appreciated Dr. Ranbir’s calm approach, professionalism, and genuine concern for our dog’s well-being. Highly recommend Dr. Ranbir and Dr Tej the team at Dixie Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a skilled and caring veterinarian.

I visited this hospital to get our dog checked as she had a small rash on one of her paws. It was with appointment so I was surprised to have waited almost 2 hours... when I told them I was leaving as it was way too long for a paid appointment visit, they came to check on my dog right away. At the visit I told the doctor that I wanted some sort of medication or some cream for rash/ irritation and she said it would be best to get a sample check to see the type of allergy... at this point it seemed OK. She left and a minute after someone else comes in with a quote that it would cost $498.00 for the total cost and that if we didnt want to get the tests we can pay the 89 dollars visit and go. This to me seemed like a scam. I understand when an animal is in critical condition and it is necessary to perform tests before any prescription of medication but for a small rush?? We paid the visit fee and left, I wasn't going to write a review... but as I was leaving the doctor was coming out of another room and looked at my dog with such kind hearted look as if she really cared... doing what she loved... what she always wanted to do since she was a kid...and not charging unfair amounts for something that should be over the counter med. I give 1 star because I can't give 0. We wasted 2 hrs waiting for nothing. Just to get the vet to see my dog and pay 89 dollars not prescribe anything. This people are there just for the money.

I can't say enough good things about Dixie hospital ! From start to finish, the care and compassion they showed towards my puppy during his surgery were absolutely outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and informed every step of the way. The surgery was a big step for us, but the vet and surgical team made it clear that they would take the best care of our little one. They took the time to explain the procedure, answer all of our questions, and even called afterward to check on his recovery. The hospital itself is clean, well-organized, and welcoming, and the entire staff—from the receptionists to the technicians—was so friendly and supportive. It’s evident they truly care about the animals they treat. My puppy is recovering wonderfully, and I’m so grateful to have found a team that treats animals with the love and care they deserve. I highly recommend Dixie animal hospital for anyone seeking top-notch veterinary care. Thank you all for everything!
