How to Save Money at Clarkson Village Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words can not begin to express how thankful I am for Dr. Peak and her staff. The level of care and compassion they showed my very senior cat was outstanding, from our first appointment where they squeezed us in at the last second to our last appointment today where they again squeezed us in .. they made Pearls last few months better and gave us the time we needed to say goodbye. Our end of life appointment today was hard but I felt supported and comforted the entire time and I was so thankful that Dr. Peak was the one to send my precious girl across the rainbow bridge. It'll be awhile before I'm ready to open my heart again but I have no doubt that when I do I'll be acquainting my new fur baby with the amazing and loving staff at Clarkson Village. They explain everything and answer all your questions without ever making you feel rushed and today when we were saying goodbye I felt like they were sharing our sorrow. It's an incredible place and the only place I'll ever take my precious pets in the future Thank you for giving Pearl a incredible quality of life and for making us feel like family ❤️

Such an amazing group that saved my cats life. The other vet was busy when I had an emergency, and they immediately took me. They took such great care of my cat and give me updates every single day. They not only cleaned him but brushed him and make sure that he was comfortable. Skylar is very happy to be home, but also have met the people he did.

I felt it important to share our experience to help avoid others from going through what we did. From the moment we first noticed our dog Bailey not eating, we took her in to Clarkson Village Animal Hospital to be diagnosed. Reception either didn't have our appointment scheduled or had us down for the wrong test. The office was completely disorganized and the receptionist was at a complete loss as to how to do the job. Unfortunately for us things rapidly declined from that point on. Once in, the quotes provided for procedures were inaccurate. The first few we just paid, but then started to question the ones after that. From the time we took Bailey in for her test we were quoted $200+ which we signed. While the test was being performed it went from $300 to $500. When the test was complete it was $700+, all within 45-minutes. When we asked to discuss the discrepancies with the office manager, we were told by reception that she was not in and if we didn't pay in full , “our dogs tests would not be submitted”. This was where we learnt that we had entrusted the care and well-being of our dog to the wrong clinic. There were other people waiting to pay or be seen by the Vet and after hearing what was communicated to us, you could see the shock and disgust on their faces. The Office Manager finally responded a week later, taking no responsibility or accountability, just fluffed it off as being a computer error. Even though they had performed a complete check up months earlier with no issues, Bailey was diagnosed with Liver Cancer and every second counted to prolong the inevitable and keep her comfortable. As per the vet, we were told to conduct additional procedures that could possibly extend her life up to 6 months. We did and paid for them without question, she died days later. We all make mistakes; it is how we fix them that separates us from the rest. But more importantly, when dealing with lives, there should be a heightened desire to provide the best possible care, not incompetence. Excuses do not bring lives back. These actions showed inexperience, disorganization and a complete lack of empathy for Bailey. On the day of her passing, we called the vet numerous times because her condition was worsening, and we needed some guidance and advice. The receptionist said, “not to worry, its probably just her new medication and we will have the doctor call”, We never received a call. We were frantic and confused as to how a Hospital could not have a vet on premises or on call. She died a few hours later. Not only are we left with a massive hole in our hearts, but we are also left with the guilt of making the wrong decision to go to Clarkson Village Animal hospital, always feeling confident that she might have lived longer if we had gone somewhere else. The gut wrenching feeling that we let her down will never go away, she counted on us to be there for her. It was our job. From the day of Bailey's passing (8 months ago) to now, we have never received a single acknowledgement of sympathy from Clarkson Village Animal Hospital. However, we still get correspondence to bring her in for her check-up. Proving that the main objective is the financial gain and not the animal. These emails only reminds us of the mistake we made in choosing them.
