How to Save Money at VCA Canada North Shore Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.
How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
They changed. I took my dog here for years and had a fantastic experience. After being bought out by VCA, the fees went up ($120 baseline for a 15min appointment) and the service degraded. It feels like entering a car dealership as they push pet insurance like 4-5x during a visit. They also whisked my dog to ‘the back room’ for vaccines, where they stuffed him full of some treat that gave him diarrhea for 24hrs following. (He’s had the same vaccine series since with zero issues). It’s so sad because they used to be really great as a service. There are a dozen better options on the North Shore that aren’t overly exuberant insurance brokers.

The most compassionate, empathetic & kind vet & animal hospital on the planet. We had to put down our 14 year old dog yesterday and I was terrified due to a past experience putting other dog down at another clinic. We were lead to a large room with a huge dog bed in the middle. We were able to lay with her and were provided with unlimited treats. We were talked through the process by the vet who was so sweet & empathetic. She let us talk, ask questions & bawl our eyes out. There’s a call button in this room to call them when you need them. Our dog never left our side, they gave her the sleepy meds in the room with us while she ate the treats. She then laid down on me, head on my lap and fell asleep. Two other women came in to put the iv in, they were just as wonderful. My baby girl’s head was in my lap the entire time while they worked around me. They let us sit with her while she was asleep for as long as needed and called them back in when we were ready. The vet came and administered the overdose and checked her heartbeat. She said in the kindest voice possible, “I’m so sorry, her heart has stopped”. While still extremely traumatic losing a pet, everything else could not have gone more smoothly. We felt so much love and it was such a peaceful transition. I am so incredibly thankful to every staff member at this clinic. They also had us pay beforehand. They are a shining example of what a vet clinic should be. They have one of the hardest jobs in the world for mental health and they deserve the absolute world. They also have a side door exit you can leave through so you don’t have to walk back through the waiting room covered in tears, snot & dog hair. Thank you North Shore Vet Clinic for giving my sweet girl the most peaceful and loving environment to pass peacefully & surrounded by family.

I can't say enough about the exceptional care my German Shepherd and Shitszu receive at VCA Animal Hospital. Dr. Loukia Ktena is a true gem. Her compassion, expertise, and dedication to her patients are unparalleled. Dr. Ktena always goes above and beyond to ensure my pets' well-being. She takes the time to understand their unique needs and provides personalized care plans. Her thorough examinations, clear explanations, and genuine concern make me feel confident that my furry friends are in the best possible hands. What I appreciate most about Dr. Ktena is her honesty and transparency. She never tries to upsell unnecessary treatments or services. Her pricing is reasonable, and she always strives to provide the highest quality care without breaking the bank. If you're looking for a veterinarian who truly cares about your pets and will go the extra mile, I highly recommend VCA Animal Hospital and Dr. Loukia Ktena. They have earned my trust and loyalty, and I know my pets are in excellent hands.

My dog Ziggy sees Dr. Jessica Lam for everything! I love how Dr. Lam is has a lot of experiences with small animals. She is caring and loving towards Ziggy and that is the most important. Not only she's skillful and careful with his tiny body (trust me, when you have a small dog those are important traits to have) she's also really into the animals, I can see the joy she has when she sees them. I don't trust anyone with Ziggy, so are my friends with small animals. We all travels from all over the city to see her!

Great veterinary clinic. Staff are friendly and helpful. Through some good recommendations and guided checkups, we were able to save our adopted dog from some pretty bad ailments and now she’s happy, loved and care free. We live 45 minutes away, despite there being several closer vet clinics. Highly recommend.
