How to Save Money at Skyline Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Rocky is a Super Star!! I've been going to this clinic for a few years now, and the service is great. I have many different types of animals, and Dr. Rocky and his team cover them all. If u have exotics and need a good, honest, knowledgeable vet, these guys are your people. It's hard to find exotic vets in Vancouver, yet alone good ones. U won't be disappointed 😌

FIrst visit with Jill this morning. I have been at another vet on the North Shore for the past 30 years + and since she retired I wasn't that impressed with the replacement(s) even though I was patient through the transition. I was recommended to Skyline Vet Hospital through friends and am so happy I switched over. Amazing knowledge relayed from Jill during the consultation and I had all my questions answered in detail which all made sense to me. Kai had a very pleasant experience and was right at home in the office and examination room. I loved the way Jill distracted him during his shots and it was a great experience for us both. Jill took her time, I never felt rushed during the visit and her expertise definitely put my mind at ease. Thanks to the lovely ladies at the front office as well. All around, great knowledge, expertise and compassion.

We have just had a few appointments with Dr. Claire Beneke but have been so impressed with the level of care and compassion she brings to her work! We have a very shy and anxious dog and Dr Claire takes so much time with her, prioritizing her comfort and making each visit as positive as possible. Pricing is very fair given the amount of time and attention received and we have been pleasantly surprised with how quickly they can schedule us in. So grateful to have finally found such a competent and kind vet on the North Shore for our sensitive girl!

I had previous great experience with Dr Rocky with out elderly cat who was very ill and end of life when he was at a different clinic (Dr Rocky is v v compassionate yet practical and will always have the best interest of your pet forefront); I was delighted to find now he is at Skyline he can also treat birds which is hard to find on the north shore. Very happy with the service here.

If there are more than 5 stars to rate Skyline Vet Hospital, I'd gladly do that! I brought my pregnant dog Enzo to the vet for a check up at the 3th trimester of her gestation, not expecting much because she was with other vets before, and there was always some hesitance assessing her because she's a Malinois. But Dr. Natasha was very skillful, took the time to let Enzo feel relax, then got down on her level to talk to her, calmly examine her. She got an ultra sound after that, with 4 crew members helping to keep her comfortable throughout. Dr. Natasha gave me lots of advices and resources to prepare myself for the delivery, which helped me revive a puppy later. After the delivery day, Enzo was in the stage of "almost need to see doctor" but not quite there yet. I called Skyline Vet, Dr. Jill answered my questions, gave me the consultation needed, laid it out different scenarios to watch for and helped me to monitor the new mom's situation. I called her several times in the next couple of days to update her and ask more questions, sometimes right when they were closing as well, but the whole staff and Dr. Jill always answered me with a welcoming and reassuring manner. Enzo ended up not having to see the doctors at all, all the pups and herself are well, and us the "pawrents" are kept sane as well, big thanks to the Skyline Vet Hospital Team. I can't recommend enough the Skyline Vet Hospital to you all. he puppies will come to this vet for sure, and I will switch my other dog and cat to them as well. Once again, THANK YOU!
