The vet was helpful in narrowing down the problem with my dog. However, I did take him to emergency against her recommendation because he was so miserable. She was right and it was his anal gland, but it had ruptured, and he needed pain relief.

Thank you for saving my puppy
I got a puppy 4 months ago a Shitzhu girl named Nova and had no idea I was going to be in a bad situation with her heath. She was beautiful and active like a puppy normally would be however about 3 weeks ago she was lethargic, not eating,or drinking. I took her to the hospital and they gave her an I.V to hydrate and a med with a few other tests and ruled out parvo and other things and thought could be a shunt liver condition. I took her home and the next day still not seeing improvement had blood tested came back more likely that diagnosis. I ended up back that night stayed over and the next morning went to Tufts university to see a specialist. The ultrasound confirmed shunt liver surgery was needed. I took her home with meds which helped get her back to being an active puppy and scheduled surgery after a week holding steady. The ring they used seems to be working been 2 weeks since the surgery and she'll be checked soon to confirm that she will be fine going forward. I want to thank Trupanion for saving my puppy. The People I dealt with through the process where caring,professional, and thoughtful and all bills where handled as promised. Thank you so much, Gino V. Nuzzolilo
