Angry and disappointed
I've been a customer of Healthy Paws since 2011. I was REALLY happy with them until the last couple years. The premium for my small mixed breed dog started at about $20/month, and increased by a few dollars each year. Ok, no problem. However, the year he turned 12, the premium nearly tripled, then doubled the year after that. For our pure-bred large breed, the policy was always on the expensive side, but we again saw it double the year she turned 8. The premium for both dogs is now nearly $600/month. I am 100% committed to the idea of pet insurance, but I can't help but feel like Healthy Paws is trying to off-load us as customers now that my dogs are older. I am so disappointed and angry. Now that my dogs have a bunch of pre-existing conditions, our only options are to drop coverage or pay premiums that are on track to double each year. This is completely unacceptable for a company that claims to want to support your family for the life of your pet. They don't mean it.

PetsBest is no longer the best or even close. Beware.
I feel like PetsBest has changed radically since the pandemic. Claims are taking FOREVER to get reimbursed, or denied. My dogs juvenile cataracts were completely denied, with the explanation being that there weren’t enough records of her eye health? Who takes a 2 year old dog to an ophthalmologist just for the heck of it? There’s never a health issue until there is, and that’s when you take them to the vet, as I did. It’s a disingenuous way to avoid paying a valid claim and the surgery they probably feared was coming. For me it meant thousands out of pocket when I was already paying $200/month for 2 dogs (wellness included). Furthermore, the last rate increase was horrendous-a near 50% increase for same coverage. Up to $276/month. That’s absurd if they’re just going to deny claims anyway. The last one to be denied was an ordinary bill for vaccines from a vaccine clinic. PB didn’t like the format of the invoice apparently. I mean COME ON. Lastly, when I called about the rate increase the customer service was flat-out rude. Check recent BBB activity on this company. NOT what it used to be. They’ll pay for random illnesses, accidents etc., but beware if your pet has anything that might become chronic or expensive. They’ll deny the condition up front to get out of paying for it long-term. You know-the stuff people buy insurance for. Been paying them thousands each year for years and years without any significant claims? THEY DO NOT CARE. And once you’re signed up, you’re stuck. I’m now paying $90/month for a 6 year old mixed breed who’s never had anything wrong but one tooth problem. But any other pet insurance company will now categorize any dental as preexisting, so I’m loathe to switch. I’ve come to feel PB adjustors and leadership are crooks, liars and thieves. If you have a young pet, start them elsewhere. PB is riding on its old reputation while adopting shady insurance biz practices and jacking rates to unmanageable levels each year. For what they charge I can get the same coverage plus alternative therapies at two other companies who’s staff aren’t rude.

They were so good at first, easy claim submissions & payments, but Customer Service and billing were HORRIBLE.
First year I insured 3 cats, one year old. The second year I added a male cat, age two. I called Customer Service to ascertain my monthly premium, was given one quote, then they billed for another amount. Then they dropped one cat from their billing to me and I called them THREE times to find out why? NO RESOLUTION! THEN I GET A CANCELLATION NOTICE IN THE MAIL OWING THEM $99.86 OR ELSE. When I added the 4th cat in June of 2021, I paid $149.09 every month. I asked for a detailed itemization, they agreed BUT I WAS SENT A CANCELLATION NOTICE!! They were very nice BUT....no resolutions....BILLING IS A NIGHTMARE.
