Good on paper until you need to make a claim
Both my partner's and my cars were stolen in the morning of November 22nd / overnight Nov. 21, and we each filed a claim that morning. Her insurance was through one of the major Canadian banks and mine through Sonnet. I'll start by saying her insurance treated her very well and she's back on the road with another car, though her original car was still not found. I will be switching to her insurance provider for both my home and my auto as soon as my claim is settled with Sonnet. Back to my side. My car was recovered the same day crashed into a tree in undriveable condition and hauled to the RCMP station while they looked for evidence. I let my customer care representative know as soon as the RCMP called me to let me know so he could forward to the adjuster. After the car was released from the station it got hauled to a local scrapyard where I was able to take photos of the car and recover some items that the thieves loaded up into my car from my garage (bicycle, circular saw). Two weeks went by with zero contact from anyone, so I called in to Sonnet to ask for an update on the case. They said my claim wasn't even forwarded to an adjuster until December 2nd: a full week-and-a-half since I made the initial claim. Anyway they sent me the contact information for my adjuster, so I sent them an email with some photos showing most of the external damage from my recovered car. This was on Tuesday, with no acknowledgement still (it's now Thursday). I'm not expecting to have everything settled right away, I know this takes time and everyone these days are short-of-staff, but I firmly believe that 2-1/2 weeks since I filed a claim I should at least hear back from somebody saying they received the case and either they are working on it or they are going to. Some sort of acknowledgement. There is no record of the claim on my Sonnet account to check either; I was doubting that it was even filed. My adjuster, for the record, is a second-party to Sonnet (I think?) so I can't put blame them for not receiving the file until last Friday; this is squarely on Sonnet's services. Here's to hoping negotiations with the adjuster will go better (if I ever get to speak to them). I'm fearing either I will never hear back, or that judging based on the service so far, I'm going to get super lowballed and I'll still owe thousands on a car I can't even drive. For anyone considering using Sonnet as their insurance provider for any purpose (home, auto, pet), I would direct them somewhere else. Even if the settlement process goes well, I will not change my opinion of this company. UPDATE: I finally got my first contact December 9th, 2-1/2 weeks after my initial claim saying that they'd haul the car away on the 12th to get assessed (the whole front end is gone). Okay fine, slow to start, but it should go better from here right? No. I called again on the 19th a full week after they said they'd haul my car from the scrapyard, and the adjuster said "we tried to call them but they said to call back because the guy answering the phone had to direct a car into the lot". Yeah, I've gotten that too when I called them the first time, but I call back the lot in 15 mins and they're good to speak. Did they not call back at least once in the full week I was waiting? The adjuster said she'd call them and then hung up. Okay, that's fine, but I was never notified if they got through or not. Sounds like I'll have to call once a day for updates. I don't like being annoying and I don't like writing bad reviews, but it seems like I have to push to get anything started. Also if Sonnet / Economical thinks they're going to make me pay for the extra storage fee, because they don't feel like calling the lot back, they're sorely wrong.

The person I spoke with was easy to talk to, understood my needs and was super helpful in a relatively short call. I really appreciate this as the sometimes make calls like this can be pretty painful.

I like that I received a follow-up call from Spot. Those personal touches go a long way in this day and age where everything is done online or through an app. It's nice to hear a human voice.

MetLife for your PetLife!
I've had health insurance for my pets before but the claims processing was so onerous and so limited in payout that I felt it was probably cheaper just to go without. However, the pet I adopted thru and agency came with MetLife for the first month and I decided to give it a try beyond that. It has been a blessing to have such great coverage thru MetLife and their claims processing is very efficient and easy to use online or with your phone. They may be a little slow on occasion, but certainly no worse than human health care claims! Keep up the great work MetLife.

Don’t waste your time.
This is a long one…So I purchased my English golden retriever in May 2022. Three days before I took possession of her I decided I would be a responsible pet owner and purchase insurance for her. I decided to go through my car/home insurance (Progressive) which worked with Pets Best. They seemed to have good reviews and I could just add it to my other insurances. I began my policy 3 days before bringing my dog home. Once she was home, it seemed she may have a UTI. I took her to the vet where she was treated for this UTI and she was also referred to Purdue Animal Hospital because the vet thought there MIGHT be something else going on. She did NOT diagnosis her with anything more than a UTI. When I submitted the claim for the UTI it was denied because it was within the first 14 days of the policy start date. Annoying, but fine. Then over a month later (way past the first 14 days) we took her to Purdue Animal Hospital where they diagnosed her with 2 ectopic ureters. She would need surgery which was scheduled for July 5, 2022. 2 MONTHS after I started my Pets Best policy. Now, my husband and myself were not aware of any of these issues when purchasing her. The ONLY thing we were made aware of was that she had an inverted vulva, that was genetic. But all her other issues were just thrown at us by the different vets we took her to. She had her surgery, I submitted the $1300 claim and it was denied for it being a “preexisting condition.” When I contacted them the lady I spoke to seemed annoyed and just said “l’ll email you a dispute form, but it will take at least 90 days to process.” This was obviously discouraging because their regular claims process takes weeks to get completed anyway. As we continued to rack up our credit cards with vet visits to try to get our sweet girl healthy, every single claim was denied. We spent over $4,000 in vet bills on a pure bred English Cream Golden, who for all we knew, had an inverted vulva that would pop itself out in 1-2 heat cycles. Plus we spent our monthly premium to pets best for literally nothing. Oh and the cherry on top. I had one last claim being finished when I already cancelled my policy. Just got the notification that it was completed today. They applied that claim to my $500 deductible!! What!? pretty sure the $4000 we have paid is well over that $500 deductible. DO NOT GET THIS PET INSURANCE. They will do nothing to help and they take forever to process anything.
