This is the first time my husband & I have ever have ever had the need to use insurance. We have been so blessed that our dogs have always been so healthy. Having our Harley come down with this illness has been rough to deal with. The upside is that the Spots website & customer service has been so helpful and easy to process claims. Fast turnaround with no issues. We are so thankful.

The premiun amount dobles every year
I have two pets insured with them. It is a great insurance that covers what they offer very fast but the premium price every year doubles even though when I sign with them they told me they never increase premiums drastically. This year I’m thinking of switching because for just one of my dogs I’m going to pay more than $330 a month comparing to last year that was $150. I think not a reasonable increase.

Heart broken and broke
I was using pets plus us and they refused to cover my last vet emergency. My dog ended up dying at that emergency. They refused to cover the bill because they felt that her vaccines were the cause and they would not cover. The manual does not say anything about this and they refused to budge. I would really never want to use this company again and would like to tell others to use another company.

My pet was preapproved for a surgical procedure. It’s been 2 weeks since I submitted the claim after she had it done and they still haven’t assigned it to an assessor. Very slow!!! Addendum: I just had a nice chat with a trupanion rep and she clarified that not only are they not even reviewing this claim, they are only up to January 5th's backlog. That slows it down even more--looking at several weeks before our preapproved case even gets looked at for reimbursement.

Highly Recommend
We've had our dog since 2016 and have been with Trupanion since we got him as a pup. They are honestly amazing, with fast refunds and excellent coverage. The monthly price changes based on veterinary prices, so your monthly may go up or down yearly. My only complaint is that we didn't think to get coverage for physio/joint treatments, and now it is too late to add to our plan. I think it would be better if Trupanion gave options based on common breed problems because we would have chosen that if we had known. Otherwise, Trupanion is amazing; we've had to make many emergency claims, which did not affect our monthly payment. This plan has paid for itself.

Mixed feelings
I was happy that my 5 year old lab's fractured tooth/root canal claim was covered, less co-pay and deductible, as it was over $4300. I have the policy for this type of costly medical treatment/emergencies, allowing me to never have to choose between best care and cost-of-care. I expected an increase in the premium, (I could understand 20-25%), but it jumped 55%! A little extreme in my opinion, especially since this is my first claim, she is healthy and not a senior! I understand it's a numbers game, but I was taken by surprise.
