AVOID Healthy Paws
I am not one who typically writes review, however, I feel a need to do so to protect consumers from Healthy Paws. We have been a Healthy Paws customer for years. Our monthly premium started at $35/month, then went to $50/month, then $112/month, and yesterday we were advised that it was now going to be $248/month. We have had no claims in all of the years that we have been with them and thus, we called them to have them explain the premium increase (which represents a 112% increase in only 1-year). When we talked with customer service, they indicated a. the cost of veterinary services have increased over the past year, b. the overall number of claims in CA increased, and c. my dog is older (yes, like previous years he is 1-year older). I have the feeling that Healthy Paws knows that once you sign up with them, you are not likely to switch due to waiting periods and given this, they feel they can charge whatever they want at each renewal. Based on this, we dropped Healthy Paws and went with another recognized provided at less than half the cost, with a higher company reimbursement % on claims (90% vs 60% with Healthy Paws) and lower deductible ($750 vs $1,000 with Healthy Paws). I stronger advise anyone considering Healthy Paws to RECONSIDER - Healthy Paws might appear to have a lower initial premium, however over the life of the policy, I assure you their cost with be significantly higher. Do not get lured into their predatory pricing policy. To all those who rated Happy Paws 4-stars, please read all of the 1-star reviews for unfortunately, you are going to be facing the same situation in the near future. To those that are reading these reviews to try to determine whether you should go with Happy Paws, I hope all of these 1-star reviews will provide you the information you need to make an informed decision, to go with someone else.
