Dentistry Dishonesty
Denied a claim for dentistry with extractions (FORLs) due to a report of mild tartar prior to enrolment (8 years ago). Claim that dental tartar is diagnostic of periodontal disease, this is false. If Trupanion used the term dental disease to describe the limits of their coverage, 85% of all companion animals would not qualify for ANY dental treatment unless, at their enrolment exam, 1) they are paediatric patients with normal occlusion 2) vets don't describe any oral examination in their records (this is against our regulations) 3) the patient actually has NO tartar, plaque, gingivitis et al (this is exceedingly rare) They know this and by using periodontal disease, they claim they cover dentistry, but in fact don't. I'm a veterinarian and find this claim denial not based in the evidence for dental pathology, but a convenient way to avoid paying for expensive procedures. If all animals with mild tartar (you can brush this off with a toothbrush) are denied dentistry claims in their future, this is not a medically nor evidence based decision, but one that is financially motivated. I will no longer recommend this company to my clients, I will actively recommend against them, nor be a member myself.

Fast, reliable, reasonably priced and caring pet insurance company
Healthy Paws had a quick review and reimbursement payment of claims after my dog went to the emergency animal hospital for advanced pneumonia for several days that resulted in a very expensive stay. I was able to pay for services before charges hit the credit card. There was enough stress as to whether she was going to make it to not have to worry about costs of medical bills to keep her alive and then recover. My dog is doing very well now. Healthy Paws even checked in with me after my dog returned from the hospital to see how she was doing afterwards. They I would highly recommend this pet insurance to anybody as it was also reasonably priced and was worth it for peace of mind and return on investment for a beloved pet and they actually cared as did not have to reach out afterwards. Thank you so much again!

At our side every step of the way
When our happy, go-lucky, and highly active 6 month old kitten Texas suddenly started vomiting late at night, we became very worried and rushed him to the emergency vet service at 1:30am. As our two cats are indoor kitties we were concerned at why this was occurring. Immediately upon arriving at the clinic, we were put to ease with the mention of Trupanion at checkin. The clinic staff assured us our sweet Texas’ insurance plan with Trupanion was highly welcomed as “they are a premier pet insurance provider who truly cares about the pets they insure”. Our minds were racing with worry and fear at what was happening with our kitten, how unexpected and surreal it seemed. How was this possible? Texas is so young with his life ahead of him and to share with us! How can we help him? Hearing the process and battery of tests to determine cause our fears of worry grew to how are we going to pay for these expenses as they are in the thousands. We were in shock at the costs! If it were not for Trupanion, we would not have Texas here with us today. They immediately responded to the vet clinic (even in the middle of the night) to provide support and care to Texas and us. Later it was discovered Texas ate a hair tie which caused an obstruction and was lodged in his small intestine. In order for him to survive he required immediate surgery. Trupanion was at our side the entire time. Working with our vet clinic, they provided lightning fast response as it truly meant life or death. We were impressed with the ease, support, and immediate attention Trupanion provided during the crisis, but also after surgery to ensure final invoices were considered, along with a heartfelt message wishing Texas a successful recovery. I never have experienced such great insurance coverage and efficiency before. I cannot express the amount of thanks I have for Trupanion. It truly was and will be the greatest gift I can give to all of our family. I wish all insurance companies were like Trupanion. You have a customer for life! You never know how quickly life can change your world. But knowing you have support and a caring team behind you makes all the difference in the world. Thank you Trupanion for Texas’ life!
