Scam insurance
Scam insurance. Don’t look at overall reviews, they used to be better, sort by most recent. They sell you on the idea of buying a policy when your puppy is born to lock in low premiums since the value of this policy is for when your dog is elderly. You end up paying premiums for a couple of years and without even submitting any claims, they start increasing your premium every year by 25%+ Essentially they steal your money in the early years when your dog is super low risk, the. they crank up premiums as your dog gets older completely defeating the purpose. Don’t trust Trupanion, don’t waste your money, go elsewhere.

Telephone experience
Luckily, I’ve only had to use the insurance to be repaid for well visits or reimbursed. I guess is a better word, but they have always been very kind over the telephone and helped me yesterday about choosing a different deductible to decrease overall monthly rates.

Amazing customer service!
The Fetch representative who assisted me on the phone, Amanda, was absolutely amazing! She was able to answer all of the questions I had about multiple policies, she also verified that her answers were correct. Her professionalism was the best I have seen, and her attitude was absolutely great!!

Our wellness policy is perfect
Our wellness policy is perfect. It allows for a reasonable monthly payment to help cover some of those annual expenses, that can get costly. Embrace is quick to respond to your claim, not only to tell you that they have received it, but also when it is complete. We love our Embrace policies.

Nope.
I’d never had to file an insurance claim for my Goldens, and had been paying premiums for 7 years (since they were puppies). it was a rude awakening when I actually filed a claim for my dog’s surgery. Trupanion will nickel and dime you for everything. And they will make you jump through hoops, to make the process as difficult and discouraging as possible. 39 pages of medical records for my dog, who Trupanion has insured since she was a pup? Yes. And multiple requests from Trupanion, which I will not get into. I was literally in tears on the phone with Trupanion, worrying about my dog and feeling frustrated with your tactics. Who treats their customers like this? I love my dogs like my children and you added so much stress to an already stressful situation. After my dog had her surgery, the vet’s bill was approximately $4,778. Trupanion paid $1017. I footed the rest of the bill. You’re probably wondering… With coverage like this, what is the point of having insurance? I purchased this insurance in the event of a medical emergency or serious illness. When I needed coverage, it was a complete letdown. Having to come up with this much money (unexpectedly) when I “thought” I would be covered, with the insurance I had responsibly purchased, and have been dutifully paying. For seven years. Sadly, I only learned how little Trupanion covers, when I needed it. They do not cover ANY medical exams. If you were to bring your pet to the Emergency clinic, you will be footing the bill, for the entire exam. Also your deductible is for EACH health issue. Penny had surgery for tumor removal. $700 deductible. In addition, she needed to have dental work (during same surgery). Another $700 deductible. During the procedure, the vet cleaned Penny’s teeth. $590 for cleaning, which Trupanion does not cover. The nicest “surprise” was that Trupanion prorated the anesthesia costs, another way they could get out of covering things. Because they didn’t cover the cleaning, they deducted a third of the anesthesia costs. My dog had to be under anesthesia for the surgery. They prorated it anyway (since they don’t cover cleanings). Why? Because they are looking for a way to get out of covering expenses. Note: had I NOT had Penny’s teeth cleaned, then they would have paid for all the anesthesia. This was a convenient loophole for them, wasn’t it? Trupanion’s proration was “a small amount” according to the Trupanion Representative I spoke with. I don’t consider $940 to be a small amount, do you? I wish I had gone with another pet insurance company. One of my colleagues recommended Pet’s Best. She said the policy she chose even covers exams. Why am I mentioning this? I hope my review helps a few people choose a better insurer. Sadly, Trupanion cares more about their bottom line, than about providing comprehensive medical insurance for pets. Note to Trupanion: Yes, I am an actual customer. And no, I am not providing you with my Member number. I am certain you will “pretend” to not recognize me as a customer ( as you do with your other negative reviews.) I have spoken with your customer service representatives a number of times. Adding cutesy notes like “Give Penny and Daisy lots of hugs!” to your customer emails does not make for happy customers, when your customer experience is like this.
