We used MetLife for our other dog who we had for 12 years and were very happy with how quick the process was to submit claims and the processing never took more than 1-2 weeks. That’s why we are choosing MetLife for our puppy now

Cat Breed question on application
I don't know what breed my cat is, so there should have been an option for Unknown or Other, and/or picture examples as a guide to help determine what it might be. Plus, it doesn't tell us how important it is that we are fully accurate with the answer.

Such a great experience
I was pleasantly surprised at the speed with which my claim was addressed. The amount of reimbursement was a nice surprise. I should have purchased pet insurance years ago but it’s really never too late.

Do your research before committing, rates and coverage change dramatically over time!
I've been a Nationwide pet insurance customer for over 5 years. When I enrolled, my monthly premium was around $50 and my reimbursement rate was 90%. Today I pay nearly $300/month, my reimbursement rate was reduced to 80%, and my coverage limits have been lowered, despite never filing claims for the first several years. As soon as I began filing claims, my costs increased significantly while my benefits decreased. Now that she is older and has pre-existing conditions, switching insurers isn't a realistic option, which means I'm essentially locked in. I also want to flag that there is a pending class action lawsuit against Nationwide pet insurance that prospective customers should research before enrolling. I believe the policy restructuring I experienced may be connected to that litigation. One more note: if you look at recent reviews here, many were posted within a short window and focus heavily on individual customer service reps by name, suggesting they may originate from post-call surveys rather than organic reviews. I'd encourage readers to look at long-term customer experiences, not just recent ratings. I'm not writing this out of frustration alone. I'm writing it so other pet owners can make an informed decision early, before their pet is uninsurable elsewhere.
