Unexpected MRI expense
My dog Eddie developed spinal pain and needed an MRI. The veterinary hospital was able to get my claim approved in just a few minutes and directly paid for. I didn't have to submit anything myself. I didn't have to wait on a claim or refund, I just paid the hospital the remainder of what I owed for my deductible. It was very convenient.

Truly grateful
I am truly grateful for MetLife Pet Insurance. From the beginning and all the way until my pet passed away, they supported me during one of the hardest times of my life. Their coverage and guidance helped ease the financial stress, allowing me to focus on loving and caring for my pet until the very end. The claims process was clear. I highly recommend MetLife to any pet parent who wants compassionate and reliable support.

2026 renewal increase doubled.
Began my policy with Embrace back in 2019 with a few month old chi/terrier mix added a pet in 2023 ….same chi/terrier mix breed and she was 7 months Insurance for both pets per month was $51.32, 2024 raised to 66.84, 2025 raised to 72.34, 2026 nearly doubled to 129.60 with a 7 and a barely 3 year old. I had a $500 deductible with a $10,000 annual max reimbursement at 80-90%, both dogs no pre existing conditions. I’ve never used my insurance. I found the Spca does a vaccine clinic at our local Petco so that’s where we go for discounted vaccines, exams, and prescriptions for heart guard which I have filled at Costco as it’s been the cheapest option I found. I called embrace and was very transparent and let them know I obtained a policy quote with Pets best for $63.41 monthly with the same deductible, reimbursement percentage however the annual reimbursement amount was unlimited. Embrace was willing to work with me, but the best rate they could give me involved creating a brand new policy with a $108. Monthly rate, a $20. Difference after years of business! Disappointing to say the least. I’m glad I didn’t just trust my annual renewal and that I took the time and did some shopping. I’ll be saving $45. Monthly and $540. This year by dropping embrace and switching to Pets best even with a dog 6 years older and 2 years older. Take away, Embrace rates have doubled and you can find more affordable plans. I imagine the number of consumers that do switch “their” premium will be covered by those who stayed (not knowing any better) while embrace has less coverages and less liability. When someone raises your rates, ask why and shop around. It can be better.

Autumn
My experience was great because it was easy and Bonnie Brae Veterinary Hospital could handle it. It was the first time my dog was sick she is only a year old.

Mixed feelings
The most frustrating bit has been their flaky claim system. Cannot submit claims via the app or website. Always something with their azure platform. Have to email it and then you get "incomplete" claim returns and with no way knowing what the claim was about because the previous attachment didn't register so have to be very meticulous what and when you submit things. I really wish they would spend time fixing this. Had a recent pet emergency and required hospitalization and it's been two weeks and still no acknowledgment on some claims. Phoned and they told me to be patient. Emails sent to claims never respond in our experience. For past claims we are happy with the service; can't fault them. Co-pays etc exactly as per policy and I give them 5/5 for when it does work. Unfortunately have to mark them down for the long claim delays and recent issues with their systems. At least acknowledge there are issues and notify users in the app or website. It takes time to prepare the claims and when it times out without any warning and time spent on it was a waste, It's absolutely infuriating in this day and age. If you know there are issues act on it. Whoever is managing your IT systems, website or apps they need a kick up the ass.
