Beware of PetSecure

Let me start by saying that I insured two cats with PetSecure and have been paying in and around $80 / month total in premiums. One cat, Spike, was insured on the very first day I brought him home from the breeder... From the very beginning I started getting notices in the mail saying my premiums were going up, or going down, then going up again. I received another notice saying coverage for dental was going down. Dental was one of the big reasons I got pet insurance to begin with. Spike got sick with respiratory issues about a year ago. Refund came in as promised for that first time claim for Spike. I was happy, was telling all my friends how great PetSecure was. About a month ago his illness returned. I had a largish vet bill, around $900 for this illness, in total. I submitted my claim and got a refund for $350. Now, I'm not an expert at math, but this is NOT a 20% co-pay. I called the customer service and was told that my co-pay went up to 50% because I was in their top ten the year before with a claim of about $1400 for Spike's first illness. PetSecure *might* be good if your pet never gets too sick, or if they only get sick once. But once you make a claim, watch out because you're on their radar and will find yourself paying 50% of your vet bill, you premium, and your deductible. So, not only would I never ever recommend this company again to anyone as I have in the past, I have now gone to my friends who signed up because I recommended this company, and have told them to beware and look into other pet insurance options.

Top company... Best at what they do!

I have a doberman that required medical attention. After he started feeling well and I could focus on other things, the most obvious was the huge vet. bill I had incurred. Now times are tuff right now for all of us, but fortunately I felt like "EMBRACE" was my "light in the darkness" because after they fully paid my claims, I felt so relieved and at least that is one thing I can feel certain about in these uncertain times.

dissatisfied

this company is a total ripoff and a complete waste of time! My yorkie was diagnosed with hip dysplasia after obtaining insurance, and it was ruled preexisting. I HAD EVEN BOUGHT THE EXTRA COVERAGE FOR HIP DYSPLASIA. This company kicks ya when your down and now i am even more broke than without the insurance. I am going to have to put my dog up for adoption. Thanks Trupanion.

Within 2 weeks - Made a claim!

On March 8th, 2010, my 3 month old puppy Jewel was rushed to emergency. An hour earlier, we had taken her to the front of our condo to get some fresh air. She was already in the habit of picking things up off the ground all the time, but most of the time she spit it out. Once the vet examined her, they determined she had swallowed a cigarette butt and now had nicotine poisoning. I was devastated and extremely worried if she was going to make it and how much this vet bill was going to be affecting my wallet!! The next day, I am happy to say, Jewel recovered and was looking much better. I paid for the bill ($853.10) and the vet office sent in my claim. The next day I received an email confirming that my claim was received. I was very impressed. It’s nice to know that when you send something in, that the company acknowledges they have it, so you’re not waiting and wondering. I was even more impressed that on March 10th (TWO DAYS AFTER THE INCIDENT!!!!), I received yet another email with an outline of the claim and what was covered. EVERYTHING (not including the exam) up to 90%!! I was amazed. It was only a few weeks before that I had set up the insurance and I already witnessed the exceptional customer service this company provides. No additional questions or hassle!! My puppy was back at home feeling better and my wallet wasn’t feeling as empty as I expected. Thanks Trupanion!! I’ve already recommended you to many of my friends and I am sure you will have many many many more customers coming your way!!!

A sea of red tape

We decided on Pets Beast after a recommendation by our vet. Our policy was $55 a month for our 5 year old chocolate Labrador, Hershey. Hershey had previously tore his CCL and we had it fixed to the tune of $4k and we were worried he would tear this other one. Sure enough, 1 year later he did. We had the insurance for a year also and they did cover his inital diagnostic test, but did not cover the CCL surgery. Why? Because they had paid for the diagnostic, anything relating to that condition is now "pre-existing". Shop before you buy.

I should have chosen Kroger PI instead

After comparison shopping online for weeks I ended up choosing ASPCA for my doggie & kitty, however after I signed on with them I heard about Kroger's plan that covered more & would have cost less. ASPCA PI did not cover any expenses for Sweetpea's seizures (which was the bulk of expenses). The plan has not saved me any money (I actually ended up paying more for the plan than I would have out of pocket). I will not renew with ASPCA & will check out the Kroger insurance plan next time.

Simply the best!

I cannot tell you how pleased we have been as a family. Our little "girl" has had two major surgeries in less than three months and she is only a 14 months old. Trupanion has been there for us each time to help and have been incredibly fast in their responses to questions or concerns. The last thing I want to state is they have the best policy for your pet on the planet, you cannot go wrong with them.Your pet and your family will thank you!
