A good but not the best insurance

In 2003 I signed up my dog for petsecure 3. In 2007 he was diagnosed with diabeties. I was happy he had the insurance as I did not have to worry about treatment costs. I was even able to have cataract surgery to restore his eyesight that he lost due to the disease. In 2010 he was diagnosed with a liver issue and once again all his treatment costs were covered. My dog died in 2011 and his cremation expenses were covered. I found their customer service representatives to be very helpful and considerate. When I had a issue with my policy I felt they listened and the issued was addressed. My main issue with the policy results from the increase in the required co-payments if you are deemed to be in the top % of claims, both in number or amount. This affected me in that twice they wanted to increase my co-payments, I was only treating the diabeties at that time, but I was able to reason with them and explained that as the condition was chronic treatment was spread out over the life of the animal. I was advised if I made a claim for any other condition my co-payments would increase. As a pet ages it is likely they will develope multiple conditions that require treatment and this is when you need the policy the most. As a result I would not purchase a policy with Petsecure again as I was able to purchase a policy where I am not penalized for multiple conditions and there is no limit on the payout for any condition and the price of this policy is comparable.

Definitely worth it!!

Adopted my rescue Mischa (G.Shephard/Akita mix) @ 5 months old in January 2008 & didn't get insurance til she was over a year old. Recommend to anyone adopting or purchasing a dog to get it RIGHT AWAY. Completely worth it. About 6 months after getting the insurance, Mischa started to limp on her back right leg. After leaving it for a couple months - we did tests; x-rays & anti-inflammatories...to find out it was a partially torn CCL (ACL). Decided to use the meds to reduce inflamation & monitor. 1 year later; the limping is worse & through more tests we've found out that now both CCL's are partially torn. She will likely need a TPLO surgery to repair this in the near future. Surgery aside; we've had about $3500 in claims for the tests & meds over the past year. Not only has Trupanion done their part & covered everything they're supposed to; they're timely & keep in frequent contact via email to let you know that your claim has been received; reviewed & processed. It's great to have that information & have the claims processed so quickly. The only thing I wish I would have known (more clearly) is the coverage for hip displaysia. I wasn't aware that this was a separate coverage at the time of sign-up. Having a G.Shepherd; I definitely would have liked this option but looks like the knees are going to be the problem for this girl anyways!!

Pretty good - just not for me

I chose Pets Best based on all the great reviews here. I checked out their website, and I liked that they seemed to cover more things than their competitors -- especially when it came to wellness and dental -- and do the 80/20 reimbursement vs the predetermined coverage amount approach. Their prices were also pretty reasonable (about $35/month for accident, wellness and dental for a 2 y/o cat). I stayed with Pets Best for about year and recently left to switch to Embrace. I should have read the fine print better when I signed up for Pets Best, but I left when I learned their deductible is per incident (like car insurance) -- not annually (like health insurance for people). I just felt like I was not truly getting a value for my money. I filed one claim all year -- about $650 to biopsy, diagnose and treat feline granuloma (a randomly-occurring autoimmune skin flare-up - kind of like canker sores in people). After the deductible ($250), co-pay ($75) and the amount not covered ($25 for medical waste fee and optional fluoride treatment for teeth), I got back around $300, which is a little less than what I paid in annual premiums. I wasn't even breaking even. I was disappointed, though I assumed that I met my deductible for the year and that I'd just have to take this initial hit before the true benefit of having insurance would kick in for the next incident... but I decided to double-check to make sure my assumption was correct. Glad I did, as the agent explained to me t

Great, quick processing and good updates

My claim was processed quickly and I was kept updated about the progress of the claim. The explanations of payment were easy to understand.

Coverage was helpful

Insurance reimbursement helped to defray the cost of my cat's care. The vet bill was quite high and without the coverage it would have been a greater burden to bear.

Always a positive experience

We had never purchased pet insurance for any of our previous dogs, and when we incurred astronomical vet bills with one of them who had orthopedic problems and then cancer, we thought our next dogs would have to be covered from puppyhood. Our beautiful Siska who is a 6 and a half year old Bernese Mountain Dog has been insured with Trupanion since she was 8 weeks old. We also have a younger Berner (2 year old Logan) who is also covered with Trupanion. Throughout the years, we have had smaller claims for a variety of illnesses and have always been extremely happy with the turnaround time for processing and receiving our claims reimbursments. More recently, Siska was having difficulty walking and what we thought was arthritis turned out to be 2 torn ACL's (anterior cruciate ligaments). Upon consulting with our Veterinarian, we were referred to a specialty surgeon who performed a bilateral TPLO (tibia plateau leveling osteotomy) procedure on Siska's back legs. Needless to say that the surgery was very expensive ($6,500), but when we presented our claim to Trupanion, we were again very pleased to receive the expected coverage amount within 2 weeks. Despite increases in monthly premiums, we have always been very satisfied with Trupanion's quick response and level of coverage.

Bailey's Best Friends

Bailey has had some healh issues in her 3 1/2 years but all the wonderful Embracers have been there every time we needed them. We appreciate everything from the emails checking on how she is doing to the fast turnaround of claims. Embrace Pet Insurance has by far been well worth the investment for both Bailey and me. She has received all the necessary medical attention she has needed. Bailey and I say Thanks Embracers! We appreciate you.
