Dishonest and Misleading—Avoid Trupanion

We recently got a puppy, and the first owners had a one-month insurance policy with Trupanion, which we were encouraged to renew. During a routine vet visit for vaccinations, our vet noticed that our 14-week-old puppy had lower canines growing into the upper inner gums—a teething issue that had just started. When we called Trupanion, we spoke with Amanda from Sales, who assured us that this issue would be covered under the policy if we renewed. Trusting her word, we renewed the policy. However, after our vet submitted a pre-approval for the extraction procedure, Trupanion denied the claim, stating it was a pre-existing condition. This was never raised as an issue during renewal. When we called back to contest the decision, they continued to make excuses, eventually claiming the issue was reported within 30 days of renewal and therefore ineligible. Why are we paying such high premiums for a company that denies valid claims using vague and shifting excuses? They misled us into renewing the policy with assurances of coverage, only to leave us with no support when we needed it most. This is especially infuriating as it concerns a young, 14-week-old puppy just starting to teethe—something no one could predict. It feels like Trupanion is exploiting pet owners, offering false assurances while denying legitimate claims under the guise of "pre-existing conditions." New pet owners are already anxious and adjusting, and this kind of dishonesty only adds to the stress. Trupanion has shown zero care or compassion and seems more focused on collecting premiums than supporting pets or their owners. Avoid Trupanion. They are nothing more than scammers preying on vulnerable pet owners.

Submitting claims is fairly easy through the website, and I like that it is always easy to connect with a person, if needed. We've been with Embrace for years and are quite happy!

Go with Spot or AKC. ASPCA just wants your money

Paid into ASPCA pet insurance for 10 months for four cats to the tune of $2,500+ with virtually no claims other than a few preventative reimbursements, and when I actually did have a claim, for a congenital issue with one of my new kittens - literally added him to my policy and took him to the vet that day, he was diagnosed that day and I submitted a claim a few months later for his first round of treatment- they refused to cover the defect. Because he was born with this, and because he was seen before the waiting period had expired, they will not cover it. Had I known that even though ASPCA advertises 0 waiting periods everywhere, apparently the advertisements don't apply in my state, I would've gone with another insurance that does not have waiting periods, or I would've signed up for AKC insurance where they will cover pre-existing conditions after 365 days. Now I'm in a pickle, 7 months into my kittens coverage with this insurance, which could've been 7 months with AKC who would cover this congenital issue, or I could've worked with another insurance to get him coverage for this issue at the beginning. It's kind of a shame how they handled this situation. ASPCA doesn't care about your animals unless they can make money off of them.

SO DISAPPOINTED

UPDATE: This is a canned response and is not in any way an answer. Corporations are all gouging us and all record profits they are making showing the gouging increases are not necessary. Just look at all corporations profits. They are not satisfied making money they are greedy and want more and more and more from us! Money we simply do not have! Until we stop buying from the corps doing this they won’t stop! The control is in our hands. Notice their answer is for us to pay MORE out of pocket to lower premiums which is counter to the reason for buying insurance to help SAVE US FROM MORE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. They want to charge us more and give us less. Again, that’s corporate gouging. 1st posting…👇 We have been with Embrace since 2007. We used to pay $200 a month for 3 Mastiffs at one time with $200 deductible & 90% coverage, but now we are down to 1 mastiff and he is at 80% & $500 deductible and paying way over $200 per mo. This is LUDICROUS. You have made it so that Bastian is our LAST MASTIFF & maybe last dog because as we go into retirement with only Social Security to live on there is no way we can afford it - we can barely afford the payments now while still working. Many dogs will now die because people are being forced to cut back and not have them because they are too much of an expense all because of CORPORATE GOUGING & GREED. Shame on you all. I am so disappointed and heart broken because these mastiffs are the best breed in the world.

I pay $125 per month

I pay $125 per month, they covered $50 of the vet bill for well visit and did not cover the bortella vaccine. This is a requirement for dog boarding. I think this has become a very greedy company. I am afraid if there is a larger problem and they will over much less than expected. Disappointing company.

Thank You Pets Best!

I've had PetsBest for 4 years now for peace of mind. I've never had an expensive emergency or claim until now and was so worried about the cost and if insurance would really work to support. It took about 10 days to receive the processed claim response from my dog's emergency surgery. I'm so thankful for the coverage and ease of working with PetsBest. I'll share this news with everyone I know and stress how important it is to have coverage. It really helped! And my dog is recovering well! I'm happy!"
