Continuing Condition
Buyer beware. I have been insured with Pets Best for over 5.5 years and my experience has been fair. For routine services the plan was pretty good however when it came to major dental services the claim which was extensive was denied. Unfortunately our poor little Cavalier was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease in 2013 and the plan paid 80% of expenses until the moment when the poor little pup died suddenly from congestive heart failure on 12-30-14. I submitted a claim for appx. $1,500 for emergency services and the Company denied the entire claim under the reasons that the coverage for the CONDITION was maxed out. Last, when I asked if the costs for the After Care of the poor little girl would be covered the representative flatly told me that there would be no coverage as the costs are related to the CONDITION. There was never any explanation of any change in the policy from the time we bought it to the present date or an offer to opt of the old policy and switch to a new policy. So my friends read the fine print carefully, think twice or even more times before you sign up as you will be disappointed when something terrible happens and you seek their support and assistance.

disappointment
our premium amount for two dogs went up from $85 to $152 per month. This is 78% increase! Our dogs turned ten years this past year. They are both mixed breed and through out their lives they have been healthy. We have done zero claims to Pets Best. The reasoning in the letter was embarrassing. 'greater modern veterinary medicine' 'claims based on age, breed, and where we live' ' adjustments not based on personal claims filing history' This shows how pet owners get the corporate treatment from companies like Pets Best. Shouldn't there be customer appreciation for owners who take good care of their pets, and who choose healthy breeds (Mixed breeds are healthier than pedigree dogs). We ended up thinking that this is a company policy to push out customers with older pets. Especially those customers who do not have two six digit incomes.

So Glad I Had It!
My dear dog of almost nine years just passed and thankfully we had this insurance in place to take some of the distress out of the entire situation. She had to have a series of expensive tests and surgery and not that we wouldn't have done it anyway, but knowing we would have some reimbursement really helped. The claims process was so simple and had I had my correct bank routing number on file, I would've received the money within 2 days of making the claim. Even so, the checks arrived promptly. If only all insurance companies were so reliable! Thank you, it was worth having Pets Best for all those years.

Trupanion Review
I will recommend Trupanion Animal Insurance to everyone I know who have animals. My little Macy suffered a serious head trauma and needed to be hospitalized for many days. She had a serious of tests done including, an MRI and a spinal tap. Needless to say, the vet bills were in excess of $4,000. I submitted my claim to Trupanion and within a few weeks time, I was reimbursed 90% of my costs...with no hassle! They are a great company to work with and my Macy has made a full recovery!

Only good if your dog is healthy for over a year;
I adopted a new dog from the shelter. He was slighly under weight and still growing. In the first few weeks I had him I was over feeding him, but didn't quite know this yet. He would throw up about 10 minutes after eating then eat it. I took him to the vet and they gave me antibiotics just in case. I ended up reducing his food intake by 2 cups and changing his bowl, and that fixed it. No claim was made to VPI for that, but when I sent over all his medical records, they stated he has gastrointestonal disease as a pre-existing condition. Really? They gave two more pre-existing conditions as well. No thanks VPI, we are going elsewhere.
