Never will use them again
Very disappointed. VPI will deny your claim stating it is a pre-existing condition when it is not. Then you have to appeal it with all the records of your pet for the last 12 months even though they already have them with the initial claim. Will not recommend them, nor use them again. There are far too many other pet insurance companies that I can use. Or save myself the money and the aggravation and not use any at all. Per Consumer Reports all are a waste of money. On this review, it wanted to know if it is a dog or cat, it is neither, but an exotic so I had to make up an animal

Fast, efficient claims processing
The claims process is very easy - scan the vet's bill and attach it to the email to submit the claim! Claims are processed quickly and the reimbursement is directly deposited into the bank account. Can't ask for an easier claims submission and reimbursement process.

Waste of money - they don't cover what you need.
I have been paying into the full comprehensive plan for years. My dog just needed surgery for elbow bone that chipped off and needed to be removed. They only covered $750 of a $4K surgery. I have spent so much money on the monthly premium, I should have saved it as I would be ahead, even paying for the surgery out of pocket.

The Real Deal
Billie is doing quite well...fortunately, it was just a sprain. We submitted our claim form and was contacted, a few days later, by Trupanion that they had received the form and were reviewing it. Then, a few days went by, and we were once again contacted by Trupanion that they were ready to issue a check for the correct amount, after our deductible. It's wonderful knowing that a real company is there to honor it's commitment to it clients.

Exactly what was needed
I got on with Trupanion 3 months before my dog became chronically ill. He passed 3 months after that, but initially we had no idea how long he would be with us. I am so glad that this sad valley could be a little less deep. Trupanion pet insurance was a large hand of help. Instead of worrying about how I would pay for everything and letting it eat away at what little time I had left with my beloved pet, I could just simply spend uncomplicated time with my precious sweet baby, Cloud. The only blip was early on, it took a little while to get "medical records" accepted before the first reimbursement came through:almost two weeks. But ever since, no issues. I've been getting a 7-9 day turn around on reimbursement from submission of the claim to the check in my hand, which is perfectly easy to float on a credit card with no interest charges. I've never had any other pet insurance, but I'm very please with them and will remain with them for my remaining dog. And any future pets I may have.

A "10" Rating - Best Ins Ever - Exceptional!!!
I did a lot of research on pet insurance companies over the last several months, (my previous experience with my last insurance company was horrible). I could see that Healthy Paws was rated in the top 10. I reached out to a few dog groups on Facebook and most recommended Healthy Paws for their excellent service, affordable & reliable plans (no hidden exemptions or per incident).I recently had to take my Pyr Mix Cooper to the Vet for vomiting & diarrhea. The Vet did blood, fecal and urine tests. He was treated with antibiotics and improved (thankfully). Two weeks later he contracted kennel cough (no more doggy daycare for us) and had to take him to the emergency Vet...Again, costly tests and treatment. In less than a month my vet bills were almost $800 (small compared to something catastrophic)and Healthy Paws processed my claims immediately (the same day)and sent a check the same week...Wow!!! Healthy Paws responds so quickly and their customer service is outstanding, really kind & caring people that want to help you keep your pet healthy! I volunteer for several Dog Rescue groups and will refer everyone to Healthy Paws, I'm one happy & satisfied customer and Cooper's grateful too :-) I rate Healthy Paws a 10 plus!!!

disappointed
I took my dog to the vet for pain and sick, it was found that he had crystals in his bladder. Trupanion decided to not pay part of the claim because they thought my dog had pancreatitis which he did not we had them on food to make sure he didn't get a reoccurrence of it but they picked that out just to be able to discount part of the claim. I have my debt writing them another letter claiming the dog has not had pancreatitis since January 2013. We were just being extra careful with the food to make sure we didn't cause it to come back. My bed put my dog on a completely other food because of the crystals in his bladder. I had a lot of extra work for me with calling the insurance company and calling my vet and bothering my vet to try and get this straightened out very disappointing
