Preexisting condition loophole

Preexisting condition loophole: I have had Trupanion insurance on my pets for over 10 years. I have two policies with 4 pets. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO A VET WITHIN THE 30 DAY PREEXISTING WINDOW. Nine years ago I adopted a 3 year old Shih Tzu mix. The vet mentioned some tartar on her teeth, which more than likely have been cleared up by subsequent dental cleanings. Now nine years later they will pay for nothing dental. I now hate Trupanion. I could see if the condition reappeared within five years or so, but nine years later is a rip-off. I recently called Trupanion and asked which teeth had the tartar, but they couldn't tell me. If they could I was going to say than exclude those teeth only. In their defense there are many claims I would give them five stars on. They have paid out many claims over the years for my pets. Remember that Trupanion is a business and in order to stay in business and be able to pay claims they have to make money. Therefore, they will look for a legal way to deny your claim; this does not make it morally correct. Make no mistake they do not care about you or your pet. It is a business and it is about money. If they satisfy ninety percent of the people they stay in business, the rest is collateral damage. With all that being said they are probably one of the better pet insurance companies in the industry. There are many pet insurance companies on the market, because of this claim I will look at other companies if I get another pet. I am sorry for this bad review but I feel very cheated. Please don't tell me that you are sorry for the outcome I will find it insulting.

Greedy and Exploitative – Avoid at All Costs!

Healthy Paws used to be a great company, but greed has completely taken over. I’ve insured my two dogs with them for nearly a decade, since they were puppies. At first, the price increases were small—$35 per pet per month, then $45, then $65, then $90. Every year, the cost crept up, but I stayed loyal, thinking it was just inflation. Then, after they were acquired by a larger company, they went full-on exploitative. My monthly premium was already an outrageous $243 for both dogs. But now? They expect me to pay $530 per month—more than double! No changes to coverage, no justification beyond their corporate greed. It’s clear they’re preying on loyal customers with older pets, knowing we have fewer options because of pre-existing conditions. It’s disgusting and unethical. They’re banking on pet owners feeling trapped. Well, I refuse to reward this behavior. I’ll find another insurer—even if it costs more—just to ensure my money doesn’t go to a company that puts profits over pets. Do yourself a favor: stay far away from Healthy Paws. They don’t care about your pet—only your wallet.

Wonderful phone call!

It was a very emotional call for me as I have been dealing with a lot in terms of vet visits for a very long time. I’ve been thinking about pet insurance for a long time and I was grateful to have had this agent pick up the phone. She was clear with her answers and she never made me feel like I had a silly question, nor made me feel bad for getting emotional over the phone. She knew I was going to the vet right after I got off the phone with her so hopefully she sees this little update as well! My cat has had a very long line of G.I. issues that we haven’t been able to figure out for a very long time and today we found out it was tapeworms that he could’ve had his whole life! Who knew that they were very hard to detect apparently. This could’ve been his problem all along! So if you do see this, he’s going to be ok and we are getting it taken care of. Knowing I’m going to have pet insurance to back me up in the future is definitely going to help me sleep at night as well. Thank you for a wonderful phone call!
