Absolute Waste of Money
My dog has had insurance since she was a puppy. She is now 11. I have paid somewhere around $3,750 in fees since getting my dog's insurance through VPI, now Nationwide. My puppy was recently sick and her bill totaled about $800 dollars for two separate Vet visits. Since both of the visits were in the same 'claim period' my reimbursement was greatly reduced. This plan, that I have been paying on for the last 11 years, only reimbursed me $250.00 in TOTAL. So that leaves me with the remaining $550 Vet bill AND the disgust of knowing that I wasted $3750.00 paid over the last 11 years. Quite honestly, if I had to do this over, I would either choose a totally different provider or, open a 'special' savings for my pup and drop $10 in it each payday. If I had done that I would still have over $2000 in that special "vet" fund for her and I would not have thrown away $3750. AVOID this insurance, major ripoff.

Great coverages and fast claim payment !
My havanese has allergies and has been on a allergy serum now for about 3 or 4 years. I give her a small shot every Friday. All her allergy testing was covered by Embrace. And now all her allergy medications are covered as I purchased the additional prescription coverage, which I highly recommend. I use it all the time. Claims are always paid very very quickly! I highly recommend Embrace.

Excellent service but slow
I have started my 3rd policy with Pets Plus Us and I do love their service. I haven't had any problems with claims in the past and have received amazing service. My only concern right now is that they say underwriting is completed in 15-20 business days. This hasn't been the case for my last 2 policies. We're on business day 21 and it's looking like another week. I have an issue with this as I need to know that they're going to cover a condition that started right after the 14 day wait before I make any concrete treatment decisions. Technically it should be covered but I'm worried to commit to something before I have my policy in writing. I wish they would resolve these delays on the legal side as it is very stressful for the policy holder.

RIP OFF Expect compounding 20% increase annually
I am a former vet tech with a degree in animal health and a lot of knowledge on animal physiology as well as the cost of vet care. Trupanion outright lies when they say that your rate wll not increase if you make a claim. I have the evidence in writing from them. They said the "cost of vet care" is determined by the cost of actual vet care for the type of animal in our "region" later a rep told me they meant ZIP CODE. So if I have three Pekingese, which I do, insured with this company and my pekes had several claims in a year, of course my rates would go up. My rates for Peke 1 : 2010: $35.51 2011: $59.70 59% INCREASE after the first year! 2012: $45.21 25% decrease from prior yer but still 22% more than the 1st year which far exceeds the increase in the cost of vet care in my area over 2 years (not to mention I paid $290 in EXTORTED premiums for the 2nd year of coverage) 2013 $48.11 approx 6.5% increase from prior year; and 36% increase over 3 years = NOT CONSISTENT WITH INCREASE IN VET CARE COSTS IN MY AREA` 2014 $53.43 roughly 11% increase = NOT CONSISTENT WITH INCREASE IN VET CARE COSTS IN MY AREA` 2015 (information missing, but I assure you it didn't decrease) 2016 $85.49 241% INCREASE over 6 years! The actual cost of vet procedures has increased maybe 10-15% in the 6 years I have had my pets insured with this company. They trick you by using phrases which make it seem like your costs will increase with the cost of procedures and not with the filing of claims but this is totally false. Shame on you, Trupanion. Shame on you.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance was wonderful in understanding and caring for one of my cats. At a time, I was so upset that our cat got extremely sick, but Healthy Paws' professionalism and concern made this difficult time so manageable. Also they did not stop there, but they continued their compassionate with a follow up email, checking to make sure that my cat (family member) was better and on her way to recovery.

Beyond Our Expectations
We sure appreciate Healthy Paws and your speedy claim processing. It's hard to find a company that actually follows through on what they advertise. Thank you for being one of the few!

Comparing Petplan to Healthy Paws over 10 years
I have been trying to decide between Petplan and Healthy Paws for my Papillon puppy. Both have comparable coverage, with PP being slightly better because it pays for more dental conditions and non-routine vet exam fees. Both also have generally good reputations. As far as rates, it gets tricky. Initial rates for the puppy were $37 for PP and $46 for HP. I almost bought PP but I thought I'd take a look at what the rates might be as the dog got older. It ends up that at 3 years, the current PP rate is $54, HP is $61 (90% and $250 deductible). But at 5 years, PP goes up to $84, HP is only $75. Then at 7 years, PP is $106, HP is $78 (both plans reduced to 80% coverage). At 10 years, PP is $92, HP is $63 (both plans reduced to 60%/$750 deductible). Bottom line is that PP was cheaper for the first 3-4 years, but then HP became cheaper. I've decided to go with HP, but everyone should make their own decision. I'm only giving folks something to consider.
