The claims process itself was fine.
The claims process itself was fine. However, I feel that if an animal is sick, the consultation should be covered. I ended up getting no reimbursement for my cat's illness. The premiums go up all the time and on the odd occasion that I submit a claim, I don't get anything back.

Economic value questionable
I am paying too much for the return on my insurance. I would be better to start a bank account with the monthly premium

Easy to use, great customer service
I was hesitant to purchase pet insurance - it seemed expensive and unnecessary. Then my dog had an emergency vet visit and I quickly realized the value! I researched and compared brands and finally decided on Healthy Paws because it seemed like the best fit for what I was looking for. We have had this insurance for over 3 years and our 4 year old Golden Retriever has already used it several times. They cover 80% of our costs outside of standard well visits, etc. We had a very expensive surgery to remove a possible cyst and it was totally covered. Aside from the good coverage, I also LOVE how easy it is to submit claims. I usually scan my receipts and records while standing in the vets office checking out. If covered, I have a check within a week. They have great customer service and I highly recommend.

Happy to have good pet insurance
So glad that we have pet insurance when we need it. Mia is not often sick, but after relocating to Northwest Florida from South Florida we encountered a sick doggie. We were quickly able to locate our new vet who was awesome. He prescribed medications and Mia was on the mend rather quickly. So good to have a happy girl again. We filed a claim for yearly visit before we moved on 11/30 and it was paid out by 12/3. We filed this last claim on 12/9 and it is in process of being paid out. Claims are easy to file. I do it myself now rather than bother my vets staff. If Nationwide has a question they email and I am able to fix the issue and the claim goes on. We now have our 2nd pup on the plan through my work insurance. How cool is that? So far no problems with our pup so we have not had to file for her, but when we do, we know Nationwide will respond quickly. The only thing we do not like is that the premium has gone up every year. Mia is worth it but it if gets much higher we may have to find a different insurance for her. They say age of dog does not matter nor do the amount of claims but it has gone up significantly from what started at 80/mo to now 143.00. Nationwide you need to get a handle on that piece or you will lose customers.

Inconsistent
I have had inconsistent customer service with my experiences. Upon signing up for the policy I was very transparent with the agent on Sophie and my concerns and once covered, I did learn Sophie had cancer. After removal of her tail, I was told by the agent since we removed the area /host where the cancer was and did the asked 2 CT scans proving it was gone, she would be covered for all. This is not the case and I was then told mast cell cancer will always be on her record. I would have NEVER put my dog through more CT scans had this been told tome correctly. Some agents are kind and empathetic and others it is clear they are treating each call as a transaction. The rest of her items have been easy to submit and get approved but it has left a bad taste in my mouth how this policy was explained to me especially with all the documentation I have been able to provide stating we did not know her condition and it wasnt found until after the policy was in place. AS a parent of a fur baby, all agents should be empathetic. Then they auto renewed me without ever contacting me to see if I wanted to or how it was going. There was never a review conducted

Best Decision I have ever made besides getting my dog
I am not normally a review person…but sometimes a company goes above and beyond even my expectations and I feel they need to be recognized as such. My last dog had a lot of health issues and 13 years ago dog insurance was not talked about much. This past year I got a new puppy and decided from the get go to get insurance on her. I did my research and Healthy Paws came out on top across the board so I signed her up. It was the BEST decision I have ever made. No one can foresee the future, but it turned out during the first year of my new puppy’s life I would need that insurance time after time. From possible obstructions that resulted in exploratory surgery to gastrointestinal issues that are still in the process of being resolved, they have been there to give me peace of mind. I know I can afford the very best care for my baby and they reimburse me faster than I even thought possible. Well within the 10 day period, I had the money back in my account. They even emailed me to check up on her and when I needed to call them about a question they were kind and compassionate and answered all my questions clearly and quickly. You may think I don’t need this…it’s an added expense… but for as little as $30 a month you have the peace of mind knowing your dog’s life can be saved and you don’t have to say goodbye because you can’t afford it. So eat in one extra night a month and instead get Healthy Paws insurance. Your four legged child will thank you for it and so will your bank account.

Healthy Paws saved our tripawed cat!
The hope of pet insurance is that you never have to use it. I have been a customer with Healthy Paws for two years before actually needing them! Unfortunately, life happens. Our cat ripped all ligaments in his knee and needed an immediate amputation. Pet care sometimes puts the owner in an impossible position. The expense toll it can take is incredible but having Healthy Paws backing me up made the choice easy. Once I submitted the paperwork via their easy to use app, it only took a week for the checks to arrive at my house. They covered 80% of the incredibly expensive surgery. Their customer service was knowledgeable and empathetic. The only downside is you have to pay upfront which can be challenging if you don't have a credit card to charge. I will preach pet insurance for the rest of my life after this! Healthy Paws was great! I am not sure how it will affect my monthly payment yet, though.
