Customizable Plans at Competitive Cost
I really liked the easy and customizable enrollment process. Did a lot of research comparing plans, coverage and companies and this one just really seemed to be the best fit for us. Haven’t used it yet, so hopefully their service is as expected.

What they don't tell you!
My dog is 3 years old. My Trupanion Insurance was $81.77 the 1st yr. In 5/2019 it jumped up to $100.59 and 5/2020 it was $128.99. That is over 50% more than I was originally paying in 1 yr. Be careful.

Was a blessing!
I got insurance for my puppy; unfortunately one night he was running and ran in screaming. Thank goodness for healthy paws, they covered the ER visit and his shoulder surgery, his hospitalization; made my 6000 bill a lot more easier to be like yes so that I can provide the best care I can for my puppy. And they sent an email about a week after asking how my puppy was doing.

JUST GET THE INSURANCE
My vet recommend I get insurance for my puppy, just in case because you never know what happens. It was so amazing to know I have it when my puppy unfortunately needed shoulder surgery. Without healthypaws I didn't think I could afford a 6000 surgery, but it was so easy to say yes. They had the claims processed within 10 days and were sweet enough to check in to see how much puppy was doing.

Good outcome on claim dispute
Recently, I took my dog into the vet to help with what turned out to be a bacterial ear infection. I submitted the claim to Nationwide, and this was the first time I ever had a claim denied in my year and a half as a customer. They said it was a pre-existing condition, likely because my dog had an ear infection as a puppy. I called their helpline explaining that these were 2 discrete infections that occurred over a year apart and was given instructions on how to dispute the claim. My only complaint about the dispute process would be that it’s not very digital- all instructions require printing and sending in forms, which wasn’t an option for me as I don’t have a printer and currently don’t have access to my office printer due to the pandemic. I ended up emailing my forms to support and was able to get my dispute approved in about 6 weeks. All in all I’m happy with the outcome, but I would encourage a review of the dispute instructions on Nationwide’s part.
