Just recently purchased spot…
Just recently purchased spot insurance for my dog , some unexpected events occurred with him needing medical attention. Submitted the claims to spot which took a little while , but over all very pleased because all three claims were reimbursed at 90%.

Scam
After many years of pet ownership and numerous costly veterinary expenses we decided last year upon adopting two rescue dogs to give pet insurance a try. One of the dogs came with a 30 day coverage period with Petsecure as part of the adoption agreement. I did call another company for a quote but in the end enrolled both dogs with Petsecure, both under the top of the line coverage, Secure 4 plan. What an absolute joke. Over the last year I have found out that this company’s favourite tactic is simply to deny everything you call about. Expenses incurred for behavioural issues. Denied. Expenses incurred for veterinary chiropractic services. Denied. Purchased medication (K9 Advantix II) from Petsmart. Denied. In the 13 months that we’ve had the policy we have paid Petsecure nearly $3800. I feel completely foolish for having fallen for such a fraudulent rip off. An expensive lesson for sure, but I will never think about buying pet insurance again. Obviously the wise and prudent thing to do is to take the monthly premium amount (ours is now over $310) and put it aside in a TFSA for use in veterinary emergencies. I strongly recommend to other pet owners considering getting pet insurance to think very carefully first and to remember these people do not have your best interests in mind or the best interest and welfare of your beloved pets. Their only interest is in making money for themselves.

Easy Claim Process
When I adopted my little girl, I felt that we should get an insurance policy for her. My little guy before her got cancer and I had to borrow money to be able to help him. We didn't want to have to do that if this happened with my little girl. Then we got another baby...a bigger dog who was older and we knew the time was right. In order to be responsible furbaby parents, we knew we needed to be able to care for them. After reviewing other pet policies, Pets Best just looked really good for us.

Hereditary or Pre-existing another win for the insures
When I signed my pets up for health insurance, I was under the impression that my dog’s genetic predisposition for hip issues would be covered. However, I was told that her conditions would be pre-existing and not a genetic predisposition. She’s a mastiff, genetically predisposed for hip issues. Instead I listened to a member of the staff give anecdotes about her German shepherds and how they don’t have hip issues regardless of their pre-disposition. I’m not sure what anecdotal evidence about an employee‘s pet hast to do with my pets issue. Clearly this company has figured out a way to masterfully exploit our pets and emotions just as they’ve done with human health insurance.

Here is a list of PET insurances that…
Here is a list of PET insurances that CARES & VALUES the customer MORE than Healthypaws. Bellow, I explain why. 1- Pets Best 2- Spot 3- ASPCA Pet Insurance 4- Pumpkin 5- Embrace 6- Pawp 7- Toto I do not recommend this insurance company at all. I moved to a new home and a week after that I received an email from them stating that my monthly premium was going to increase due to the new location. It was the third time I moved into a new place in 3 years and the two other times the exact same thing happened. I proceeded to call Healthy Paws to find out what they were basing this raise in price on. The very unhelpful and moody customer care agent just said that she did not know why the price change, that their system decides on prices and not them, therefore she could not do anything about it. So I explained to her that if I simply went on their site and input my address as a new client, it was offered a monthly premium 20% cheaper than what I was paying. (Which does not seem fair that they value a 2-year client less than any new client). I said that to the customer care agent, and she once again said “there is NOTHING I can do about that”. So I asked her if maybe I should just cancel my account and open a new one. I asked her if it wouldn’t just be smarter if I did that. She replies that it is up to me and then asked if she could process the cancelation. The cancelation was processed and the following day I opened a new account with them for both my pets for 20% less. After the first time I took them to the vet I got a reply from Healthy paws that they will not cover my claim as it is now considered an existing condition. I spoke to one of their managers about the situation, I explained that when I asked the customer care agent if I should do this, she never informed me that everything would be considered an existing condition. Guess what the managers’ answer was? “THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT THAT” They don’t care or value any of their customers!
