Refused to pay for a covered illness

We have had pet insurance on 3 pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) over the past 12 years, all with 24 Pet Watch. We did not shop around but settled with this company because of their Shelter Care 30 day coverage. I regret spending thousands of dollars with this company over the years. Our premiums went up every year and they hassled us with every claim. While we did receive payment on several claims, the latest claim took MONTHS to resolve and required repeated phone calls and appeals through my veterinarian and myself in order to receive our $300 payment. I do NOT recommend this company. Every time I called, I was told there was no supervisor available and EVERY TIME they asked me to upgrade my coverage since I was upset they were not honoring the policy we had paid for. GO ELSEWHERE. Details about the most recent claim: My (indoor) cat woke up one morning with a huge abscess on his face. We had it treated at our local emergency vet. While we did not know the cause of the abscess, it was determined to be an abscess by the emergency vet and our home vet on follow up. Our policy covers "infectious diseases" and an abscess is by definition an infectious disease. 24 Pet Watch repeatedly told me that we did not have coverage for this because it was "unclear what caused the abscess" despite the fact bite wounds, dental conditions, and infectious diseases were all covered. After nearly a year of fighting with them, they paid us the $300 saying they were "making an exception" and again suggested we should upgrade our policy. Awful.

One less worry at a stressful time

Our lab ended up needing emergency stomach surgery to clear a blockage. At every step of the process attempting to diagnose her, it was a huge relief knowing exactly how Healthy Paws coverage works. No sneaky tricks, no after-the-fact exceptions for "genetic" conditions, no average allowable prices which have no bearing on reality. We know what pre-existing conditions of hers will not be covered, and aside from deductible and office fees, everything else for our plan is actual 90% reimbursement for actual expenses paid. We could make treatment decisions based on what she needed, without the added stress of worrying about what each thing would cost -- or even if it would be covered. Upload a PDF of our invoice and a check arrives a few days later. Incredible.

For Us It Has Been There At A Hard Time

Our first pet insurance company, Purina, abruptly stopped covering our pets and went out of the business a couple of years ago. With that notification letter came a recommended company to take over our coverage, however, after reviewing that company we determined not to transfer to them. We researched several companies with Healthy Paws as one of them. Although they do not cover wellness or office visits, what they did cover was worth everything to us. They have lived up to all the coverage promised. Recently our five year old miniature dachshund suffered an IVDD incident. Healthy Paws has made the choices of how to treat our sweet little one so easy as surgery or confinement/medications/laser treatments etc. were covered by them 90% of our cost. She did end up having successful surgery on December 5, 2014, by Dr. Higgenbotham with Bush Veterinary Neurological Services in Richmond, VA. On December 12, 2014 our costs were covered by Healthy Paws for that 90%. Healthy Paws allowed us to do the very best for her. From our experience, Healthy Paws is an excellent provider.

I love Healthy Paws!

Upon adopting our pup at 4 months old we decided to purchase a health insurance policy for her. And it was absolutely, one of the wisest decisions we could have made. When a pet becomes sick the last thing one wants to add to that worry is a financial burden. We chose Healthy Paws because of the awesome reviews and we have not been disaapointed. Filing a claim is a snap and the turn around time from processing to receiving a check was one week! (And this wasn't our first claim :) I cannot reccomend this company highly enough! Don't hesitate, Healthy Paws is the pet insurance company you've been wishing for!

Review

Overall have been happy with this company, my dog is now 12 and has just recovered from a series of problems. The only concern I have is that the cost has increased since signing up... but also understand that vet care has also increased.

Most reliable service

We have Petshealth for both our standards poodles. The older one (8 1/2)had more than his share of serious ear infections when a puppy. The coverage was excellent. He is pretty steady now but we just added the extra coverage to make sure we don't get stuck with the recurring condition problem. The younger guy will be 5 in January. He has had more unusual situations- skin growths, for example- again no problem with coverage, very quick turn around. I have strongly recommended this insurance many times and everyone who has gotten it has been just as satisfied. Don't leave home without it!

The best pet insurance company, great staff !!!

I highly recommend ASPCA Pet Insurance to everyone that I know and meet that has pets. The staff is understanding, professional and personal in the way that they handle everything that you may need to talk to them about. I always get a courteous person on the phone whenever I have called them. I really appreciate how prompt they are to pay for the claims that I've submitted, and I mean quick. I've received refund checks within 2 weeks of submitting them via FAX. You are picking the BEST Pet Insurance in selecting ASPCA !!!

Healthy Paws rocks!

I've always owned pets, but was new to pet insurance when I got a new puppy last year. I researched a lot of companies before choosing to go with Healthy Paws. Recently, I found out what a great decision this was. You never really know how an insurance company will pan out until you are faced with a crisis. Our girl got very sick and spent a week in the hospital. Everything concerning my dealings with Healthy Paws at this time was A+. Their website and apps are very consumer friendly and make for seamless claim submittal. Their processing and payment times and super quick. They even inquired about how my girl was feeling, wanting to know if she was okay. Highly, highly recommended!

Jerks

Back in 2010 i canceled my plan because they did not want to pay outShort version the rep on the phone had the nerve to yell at me call me a horrible pet owner and said if I treat my dog like it's not worthy having insurance than my kids must get wowy treatment Yes she out right said your a bad pet mom and an even worse mother what your kids must think of a parent who won't do anything to protect thier let The are total jerks
