My (previous) dog for whom I had VPI for 10 years passed on at age 11 1/2 in 2015. Now I've just adopted a new dog, and from my experience, I would never ever consider VPI again. They paid out a low percent of eligible bills, and rejected many valid and necessary vet treatments. Finally, at the end, they paid zero on the euthanasia and cremation of my dear girl. Their problem (aside from greed) is the system of numerically categorizing procedures in ways that aren't realistic according to what is done by the vets and needed by the animals. Even some VPI service people advised me to "change the number" in order to get some reimbursement when it had been rejected. With all the alternative companies now, I don't know why anyone uses VPI. I also don't understand how some people say they were able to receive high percent reimbursements.

Embrace have let us down. They requested health information that they admittedly did not review in a timely manner. Thus, when our poor dog was sick, they denied our claim. Their rationale was that the sickness that our pet was suffering was "pre-existing" on that day, being the day that they finally reviewed, and deemed insufficient, the medical records we had submitted almost 2 months prior. That left us to pick up the bill.

I purchased Trupanion insurance on my 11 week old pomeranian at her first vet visit. I had never had pet insurance before but this sounded reasonable and what I would need insurance for at a very reasonable cost. About 18 months after purchase of insurance a heart problem was diagnosed and cost $4000. total to repair. The condition is known as "patent ductus arteriosus". If not corrected my little dog would have died in about 2 years. Regardless of whether or not I had insurance I would have had the procedure done. It was absolutely wonderful to have the insurance pay me exactly as the contract had said. I recieved about $3100. in reimbursement. My premiums were only $35. per month. It would take 6 years of paying premiums to equal that amount. A truely excellent insurance value. I will always have my pets insured. It is so worth the cost. Be sure to carefully read and understand your contract and how claims are handled. If the premium is ever to high for me I will increase my deductible. This is excellent for those times that your pet may develope a very expensive condition that has to be treated. I could have had the expenses covered under the "pre pay provision", but I did not realize that there was such an option. I hope that we will never have to make another claim, but in the event that something does happen, it is an immense comfort to know that we are covered. I would recommend this insurance to ALL pet owners. Buy the insurance immediately as soon as you get your pet, that way you won't have any pre existing condition limitations. I am going to tell everyone I know about this insurance and even put it on facebook. It is sooooo worth the money. The customer service people were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They helped me every step of the way. This is an excellent and reputable company. If I could give them a rating of "1000" instead of a "10" I would. My family purchased the most adorable double doodle (goldendoodle/labradoodle) puppy in early August. I went back and forth on purchasing insurance, did a lot of research, and finally decided I would go ahead and get ASPCA (the best rates by far). I cannot tell you how thankful I was that I did this. On September 29, our puppy was running full speed and then took a tumble while screaming in pain. It was awful. Turns out that he suffered a tibial tuberosity avulsion (a broken knee) when he apparently stepped in a hole while at full speed and displaced his kneecap as well as breaking it. Three days in the hospital and a major surgery with quite a few follow-ups. The insurance was amazing. Quick turnaround times and great coverage. It wasn't 100% coverage, but it covered a majority. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose ASPCA insurance for every pet we have or get. I cannot say enough about this great product and company. By the way, the customer service is also stellar. They even called just to check our Schroeder.

I can't say enough about how Embrace has helped us deal with many stressful situations this year with our sweet little Yoda. We adopted a puppy a year ago, never in a million years imaging all the vet visits that would entail in the short time I've had her. I have worked in the veterinary field for over a decade, so knew the importance of insurance to get, "just in case". Well, she's only 1 and her "just in cases" have already kicked in. She has alleges and is on a very expensive medication, prescription food, many visits to check skin, all the lab work that goes with staying on that medication, vomiting and diarrhea that resulted in x-rays and more meds and a grade 3 luxating patella that she just had a very expensive surgery for. I honestly don't know what we would have done without Embrace's kind and caring staff. They have covered everything beyond our deductible's, no hassles, no questions asked, just quick, professional service and turn around time. The main reason I initially went with Embrace is because they cover exam fees, which many companies do not and with multiple exams and rechecks, this has also helped us save a significant amount that other companies would not have covered. But after being with Embrace for a year, I would recommend them to anyone, for not only that reason, but because they have been nothing short of amazing. You can tell they are in this field because they truly care. I have no doubt, they have saved the lives of many pets because they have taken the stress out what could be a great financial burden.
